Wicca 101
WHAT WICCA IS AND IS NOT
Wicca is a religion that views nature as sacred. It is a religion that views Deity in a feminine and masculine form. It is not evil, it is not devil worship, as Wicca does not acknowledge any being as all evil or all good. Everything has a balance, all humans are both good and bad, it is how they choose to live their lives that makes them good or bad overall.

You can ask 50 Wiccans what Wicca is and is not and you will get 50 different answers. That, me dears, is the beauty of Wicca. With Wicca, you can follow the parts of it you like, and leave the parts that you do not like behind. Thus the word "Eclectic" comes in to play with many Wiccans.

When comparing Wicca, and even Pagansim to Christianity, one would gather the following:

*Both Wicca and Christianity use prayer to commune with Deity
*Both Wicca and Christianity have religious holidays which are centered around the seasons and         harvesting times of the year.
*Both believe in a Universal Divinity
*While Christians call it "Sin" we call it Karma, Law of Accountability, Three Fold Law, etc. Either way, both believe that you must pay for what you do that harms others.
*Both light candles and incense as a means of assisting prayer and meditation.

So, as you can see, Wicca, and Paganism as a whole, are quite alike. However, there are many differences as well, which are the following:

* Where Wicca/Paganism worships more than one Deity, Christianity worships one supreme being who         is the creator of all things, living and not.
*Christianity has a Bible, which is the "Universal Sacred Text" of the religious path. Wicca has no such        book. However, each Wiccan/Pagan may have a Book of Shadows or Book of Light that they consider to be sacred to them. I consider my BOS as my Bible.
*In Christianity, one must accept Christ into their life and become baptized in order to secure a palce           in heaven, those that do not are doomed to spend eternity in the firey pits of hell. Wiccans/Pagans                believe that we have lessons that we must learn, and once those lessons are learned then our soul passes on to the Summerlands. Wiccans/Pagans do not believe in hell.

There are many other ways that the two paths differ, however, these are the most prominent.

As you can see, Wicca, and Pagansim as a whole, is a valid religion that encompasses all that surrounds us in our daily lives. We worship not only a God, but a Goddess, many only worship a Goddess, these are the Dianic Traditioners, which we will discuss later. We worship nature and revere all that is in nature as sacred. We are not evil, we do not worship the devil, we do not sacrifice small animals and children to our gods.

We are normal, everyday people. And for many Wiccans/Pagans, society would never know they were Wiccan/Pagan if they never said anything. We do not look any different than anyone else, except, maybe, for the jewelry and the occasional tattoo. Other than that, if you were to see me on the street, you would never know by looking at me that I am a High Priestess of a Wiccan Coven.
