In April of 1983 after
watching CH Corsairs Beaujangles take the first Herding Group at
the Westminster Dog Show, I was chasing my first Terv around. Her
name was Petit Chalet's Touch O'Jasmine which we later added the
CH to the front and a CDX and HIC to the end.
Tusha was fiesty
and bossy, but also loving and snuggly. My shepherd took her
constant bossing in stride and hardly ever complained.
Tusha was
very smart and picked up her CD and CH all in the same
weekend. I showed her once and then bred her. She had
a wonderful litter of puppies on August 18, 1985. After getting
her girlie figure back, I showed her in earnest.
Tusha's one
striking feature was her beautiful deep red coat. She was nice
but not great. But I had a lot of fun, made friends and
sharpened my show skills. I showed her to her CDX as well.
In March of 1987
she got out of the yard in search of adventure. But she found
more than she bargained for. Not yeilding to a car, cost her the
sight in one eye. I helped her heal and get herself ready to
face the world.
Tusha was tough
and a fighter. She only needed one leg on her CDX. I asked her
to try, and try she did. It was not easy, but she did not give
up and I did not give up on her. She got her last leg in the
worst possible conditions, mud up to your knees and a light
mist. We came away with that last leg. I told her before going
into the ring that if she did it that day, I would never ask her
to do it again. She did her part and I made good on my promise.
Tusha ruled the
household and we called her the fox queen. She never lost that
position, even in her old age.
When she reached
14 1/2 years, she started having strokes and incidents of
falling. I knew her time was near, so I called my vet, who came
to my house. After allowing me my final good byes, he then
allowed her the rest that she so deserved.
My house was
quiet and I so missed her presence. I hope that she is not causing
too much trouble in heaven :)
