Do animals speak to each other?
Yes we do it all the time and we are animals, but what about the rest of the species?
Animals communicate, I believe this is all that matters. They are social creatures and will communicate with anyone with-in their environment and even develop a relationship with them. Like a lonely dog will hump a pillow, so will they your leg. So does it matter if they can form words? I say no. The fact is a bond can be formed and the strength of that bond will become what ever it is fed. It is a magic of it's own with a language of it's own.
So what is a pet and what is a familiar? A pet is an animal that owns a house and lets people live with it, or animals to spoiled or to much in fear to establish order. A familiar is an animal that is bonded to its master and will willingly share their own magic.
I think it is important too that witches accept the responsibility that comes with a familiar.
To have a familiar you need to own it. This is a huge responsibility, it should be approached like the working of any magic and the consequences are to be accepted. The creating of a familiar sometimes entails the manipulation of the creatures will and this may go against the laws and morals of some pagan paths, however any pet can provide a lot of joy and friendship and a strong bond without ever having to become a familiar.
