• Hallows/Halloween - Another name for Samhain.
• Handfasting - The joining of two humans in a bond of love before the goddess and god. Yes, they can be made to be a legal marriage, there is no requirement that a marriage be Christian to be legal in the U.S. (separation of church and state). A Wiccan, Pagan, or Gypsy wedding. Unlike a marriage "until death do you part", a handfasting will stop if the mutual affection, respect or commitment stops. Three most common handfastings:
         1) Year and a Day
        2) Lifetime
        3) Eternity
• Handparting - A Wiccan/Pagan ritual form of divorce, symbolically the cutting of the binds created by a handfasting.
• Harm None - "Harm none" is one of the central tenets of Wicca. The wording comes from the longer poetic version of the Wiccan Rede and it just means to live one's life bringing no harm to others.
• Haruspicy - Divination by animal entrails.
• Hathor – Egyptian; Protectress of Women in Business. A Hathor's Mirror is very important for the Witch. Hathor was cunning as well as beautiful. Goddess of the Milky Way, Mother Goddess, Goddess of childbirth and death.
• Heathen - 1. One who does not recognize the God of the Bible. 2. A pagan. 3. An irreligious, uncivilized person. Can be used in this context as a derogatory term for a pagan, despite the fact that it's an inaccurate generalization.
• Hecate - Egyptian; Moon Goddess as in Crone or Dark Mother.
• Hedge Wizard - A rural practitioner who has little formal training, or none at all.
• Herbalism - Art of using herbs to facilitate human needs both magickally and medicinally.
• Herbalist - A person that works with and studies herbs and their uses.
• Herbs - Plants, including trees, ferns, grasses seaweeds, vegetables, fruits, and flowering plants, used in magick.
• Hephaestic Transference - Transfering of power or properties from one object to another by burning the first object and rubbing the ashes on the second object.
• Heptagram - A seven-pointed star drawn with one unbroken line. Symbolic of the number seven, which is important not only to the seven traditional astrological planets but also to the seven planes and subplanes and the seven chakras.
• Hereditary Witch - The name used by witches who claim their practices have been continuous in the family. See also Traditional.
• Heretic - A person who holds controversial opinions, especially one who publicly dissents from the officially accepted dogma of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Hermetic - Ancient teachings based on the concepts & principles taught by Pythagoras, Plato, & Hermes Trismegistus. Text originating from the Mystery cults of the Aegean/Mediterranean as well as from Persia & Chaldea.
• Herne The Hunter - Britain. The dark lord. God of the hunt, wild animals, and forests. Associated with the Gods, Cernunnos and Gwynn ap Nudd.
• Hestia - Greek Goddess of the hearth and domestic life
• Hel - Norse Goddess daughter of Loki and the giantess Angrboda, Queen of the Dead.
• Hera - Greek; Goddess of Marriage. If handfasting or some type of commitment is the issue, Hera is the Goddess to seek. Just remember that she has a vindictive side.
• Hestia - Greek; Goddess of Home and Hearth. Building a house, remodeling, or apartment hunting. Safety in the home and family unit.
• Hex – See Curse.
• Hexagram - This six-pointed star has origins far older than Judaism. It is sometimes used to represent the Hermetic teaching “as above, so below.” It is a symbol of the blending of female and male energies, a necessary ingredient of successful Magick. The word is also used to denote the lined glyphs used in I Ching.
• Hierophant - A priest of the mysteries who reveals his secrets only to this initiates.
• High Magick - Ceremonial magick involving the actions of deities or spirits.
• Higher Self - That part of us that connects our corporeal minds to the Collective Unconscious and with the divine knowledge of the universe.
• High Priest - The principal male leader of a coven. Solitary Second and Third Degree male Witches are also High Priests, they just don’t lead a coven.
• High Priestess - The principal female leader of a coven. Solitary Second and Third Degree male Witches are also High Priestesses, they just don’t lead a coven.
• Higher Self - Non-physical, true self. The enlightened, "actual" persona of the individual as opposed to what the person seems to be or thinks they are.
• Hiving Off - The process whereby some members of a coven leave to form a new coven of their own.
• Hocus Pocus - A magickal phrase found in ancient grimoires.
• Holey Stones - Stones that have a natural hole through them
• Holy Days - Wiccan/Pagan Holidays. These eight days are Imbolc (February), Ostara (March), Beltane (May), Litha (June), Lughnasadh (August), Mabon (September), Samhain (October), and Yule (December).
• Holy Water/Oil - A liquid that has been blessed by divine spirit and consecrated for a specific use in a spiritual ceremony, ritual or event.
• Horned God - Consort of the Goddess. The lord of animals and forrests, associated with hunting. Pagan father God often mistaken for, or associated with, Satan. This is an incorrect assumption. An aspect of the God. Also another name for Cernnunos and the supreme Forest God.
• Horus - Egyptian; Head of a Falcon and body of a man. God of the all-seeing eye and healing.
• Hunt - The Wild Hunt led by various Gods or Goddesses.
• Hunter - The horned God of the Witches.
• Hydromancy - Divination by liquid, especially water.
• Hymen - Greek; God of Marriage and Commitment. His counterpart is Dionysus.
