• Labrys - A double-headed axe which symbolized the Goddess in ancient Crete, still used by some Wiccans for this same purpose. The labrys may be placed on or leaned against the left side of the altar.
• Labyrinth - A construction consisting of a path that spirals inward to a center; there is only one path that reaches the center, as opposed to a maze that may have many paths to the center. Walking the Labyrinth is a term used to describe the inner path each person must travel to reach the Divine center within.
• Lady, The – The Goddess or the Moon Goddess.
• Lady - Term of respect for a pagan high priestess of the third degree or higher. The "Lady" can also refer to the Goddess, the female side of nature.
• Lakshmi - Hindu Goddess of Wealth and Fertility (Goddess as Mother/Sustainer).
• Lalita - Hindu Goddess of Beauty.
• Lamen - A disc of metal with magickal symbols inscribed on it, worn around the neck during rituals.
• Lammas - Pagan Sabbat celebrated on or around August 1st. Also known as Lughnasadh, August Eve, Feast of Bread. Lammas marks the first harvest, when the fruits of the Earth are harvested and the God weakens as the days begin to grow shorter with winter’s approach. One of the four Grand Sabbats.
• Land Of Faery - An old term used to denote the section of the Otherworld where the spirits of deceased people go.
• Law Of Three - A law that states "whatever you do returns threefold". i.e.. Harming someone returns harm on you three times, helping someone returns good things three times.
• Left-Hand Path - A term that points to those people who feel that they are justified in using magick for purposes that are not constructive to other human beings. It is a reference that they are possibly a self-serving individual. Conversely, the right-hand path is considered positive in nature.
• Levitation - The supernatural phenomenon involving suspending a body in midair without physical bolster.
• Libation - Ritually given portion of food and drink to a deity, nature spirit, ghost, or all.
• Lilith - Hebrew; Adam's first wife and said to be turned into a demoness; however, you may change your mind. In Silver RavenWolf's opinion, Lilith was a Star Woman bred with Adam. This would make her a Goddess of Higher Intelligence or a representation of the Star People. Associated with sexuality and the dark side.
• Litha - One of the Wiccan eight holy days also known as Summer Solstice; celebrated on June 21st of each year.
• Lithomancy - Divination by stones.
• Loa - An ancestral deity in the Vodou religion.
• Lord, The – The God or the Sun God.
• Lord - Term of respect for a pagan High Priest of the third degree or higher. The "Lord" can also refer to the God, the male side of nature.
• Low Magic - Practical magic. The arts of Witchcraft, spellcraft, hexcraft, and hoodoo which utilize herbs, amulets, wax images, and other simple material objects in conjunction with incantations and visualization to bring about a desired result. It is also known as "Natural Magic".
• Lower Self - That part of ourselves of which distinct from the universe as a whole. This is also the part that we are easily aware of: the physical, the emotional, and the mental aspects of being. Compare to Higher Self which refers to the Astral, creative or unified level of our consciousness that binds the individual with universal Deity.
• Lucifer - Italian: Soulmate and Brother of Diana. Christians believe Ruler of the Underworld. Father of Aradia. God of the Sun and Light.
• Lugh - Ireland,Wales. Sun and War God. Connected with the festival of Lughnassadh, a harvest festival. Associated with ravens. and a white stag.
• Lughnasadh/Lunasa (*Festival of Lugh*) - The Autumn festival on July 31. It is a Gaelic word, the name of the month of August, and is pronounced *LOO-na-sa*.Another name for the Sabbat, Lammas. See Lammas.
• Luna Goddess - Roman Goddess of the Moon.
• Lunar – Anything relating to the Moon.
