• Ma'at - Egyptian Goddess, personified concept of truth, balance, justice, and order.
• Mabon - One of the Wiccan eight holy days, also known as Autumn Equinox; celebrated on September 21st of every year.
• Macrocosm - Conceptual view of the outer, larger world beyond us. Compare with Microsm, the inner, or immediate world we live in everyday.
• Macha - Ireland. Mother of life and death. A war Goddess. Associated with ravens and crows. Dominates males with sexual cunning and force. She was honored at Lughnassadh. • Mage - A master magician; often a mage is a scholarly and skilled practitioner who prefers that the only tools of their magick be their mind, ability, and spirit.
• Magic - Illusionist entertainment such as sawing ladies in half, pulling rabbits out of hats and other slight-of-hand tricks. . Magic is a natural practice.
• Magician - Term which can refer to (a) an illusionist or (b) a practitioner of esoteric knowledge. With respect to pagan traditions and other esoterica, the "Magician" is any person (male or female) who manipulates natural energies rather than using physical movements to create change in his or her environment.
• Magick - The drawing down of energy from another realm and using that energy to create and shape a desired result. The Witch must create the result on the Inner Planes in order for it to follow the universal laws and manifest on the physical plane. The results are rarely instantaneous. Energy exists in all things: us, plants, stones, colors, sounds, movements, words. Magick is the process of raising this energy, giving it purpose, and releasing it. Magick is natural, not supernatural. There are three general types of Magick. White, Gray and Black. Wiccan's spell the word “Magick” with the “K” at the end to differentiate the difference between stage “Magic” used by magicians who pull rabbits out of hats and pull tricks for show and from Witches who use Magick to pray, get in touch with the Devine, and do spells.
• Magickal - Adjective which describes the manipulation of natural energies rather than physical movements to create change in one’s environment.
• Magick Circle - A circular boundary drawn in visionary blue flames or white light that protects the Witch from outside forces while conducting ritual magick. One must never step outside the circle while performing a ritual unless the appropriate precautions have been take to cut a door. Nor should anyone step in during a ritual, unless they are following a pathway made for them. The door is usually cut with the athame or wand. The circle should never be left hanging after your ritual is over. This means that it must be closed just as ceremoniously as it was opened. The magick circle is considered the doorway between the worlds and allow us to move between the two. Some Witches draw the circle in the physical, either permanently on the floor or for temporary use with herbs, sand, salt, chalk or a nine-foot cord. The circle is still cast with blue or white light by the High Priestess/Priest or individual designated to do so. In some covens, the person in charge of a particular quarter is responsible for preparing the area before the coven members arrive. This includes cleaning the area, cleansing, consecrating, and making sure all the necessary supplies have been transported to the location.
• Magick Correspondences - Items, objects, days, colors, moon phases, oils, angels, and herbs used in a ritual that match the intent of the ceremony.
• Magickal Name - A name chosen by the dedicant or initiate to symbolise rebirth into their new path.
• Magickal Systems - Can refer to Traditions, denominations, sects, or pantheons. It is a basic set of guidelines relating to specific Gods and Goddesses or cultural traditions.
• Magickal Voice, The - The commanding, assertive voice used to read power words during rituals which allows no doubt or insecurity in. This applies whether the voice is speaking tone, a loud whisper, or in song.
• Magus - A title sometimes applied to Witches of the Second or Third Degree. It is more frequently used to denote an adept of ceremonial Magick.
• Maiden - 1. The name of one of the members of a coven, generally the assistant to the High Priestess. 2. One of the aspects of the triple goddess (maiden, mother, crone) symbolized by the waxing moon, creation, and the time between Beltane and Imbolc. The spirit of the wild, untamed feminine; the young Goddess. The strong, free Goddess. The Waxing Crescent Moon Goddess.
• Male Mysteries - pagan study which attempts to reclaim the power and mystery of the old Gods of for todays pagan males
• Malkin - Word, once popular in the Middle Ages, for a Witch's familiar that manifests itself in the form of a cat.
• Malleus Maleficarum - Also called the Witch Hammer or Hammer for Witches. A book written in the Middle Ages as a guideline for persecuting, torturing, and murdering people who did not agree with the Christian Church.
• Manifestation - The product on one level of being or a phenomenon or entity already existing on a higher level; thus physical Nature is a manifestation of creative Divinity - the Earth itself may be regarded as a manifestation of the Mother Goddess principle - and on a much lower level, a seen ghost, or a poltergeist phenomenon, is a visual or physical manifestation of an entity or activity on the astral plane.
• Manifesting Magick – Making something happen by using your will.
• Mary - Mother Goddess, Queen of Heaven, Goddess of Femininity.
• Material Basis - Items or substance serving as the physical plane focus. Also, when working for a practical result, the physical actions one does to assist in that goal.
• Math Mathonwy - Wales, Britian. God of magick, sorcery and enchantment.
• Matrifocal - Term used to denote pre-patriarchal life when family clans centered around and lived near or on clan matriarch.
• Maya - Hindu The Goddess of Illusion and Mystery.
• May Pole - Sexual symbol of Beltane representing the phallus.
• Meditation - Reflection, contemplation, turning inward toward the self or outward toward Deity or nature. A quiet time in which the practitioner may dwell upon particular thoughts or symbols, or allow them to come unbidden.
• Megalith - A huge stone monument or structure. Stonehenge is perhaps the best-known example of megalithic construction.
• Menhir - A huge stone probably erected by early peoples for religious, spiritual, or magickal reasons.
• Merry Meet & Merry Part - Merry Meet is a Wiccan expression used as a greeting. Merry Part is a Wiccan expression used as a farewell and sometimes it is extended to "Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again". These are greetings and salutations which are often used in ritual. Wicca is a religion of joy and celebration and we are reminded to come together in and part in "perfect love and perfect trust."
• Metaphysical - Having the nature of metaphysics.
• Metaphysics - A field of abstract thought and philosophy about topics not on the concrete or physical level of understanding. This includes subjects like existence, the soul, being, the supernatural, astral travel, psychicism, and so on.
• Microcosm - The lesser world, the physical. Said to parallel the macrocosm, or greater world. The world within us.
• Midsummer - Sabbat celebrated in June.
• Mighty Ones – The beings often invoked during a pagan ceremony to witness or guard the ritual.
• Minerva - Roman Goddess of wisdom and war.
• Mirrors - A common household item that be used in Magick. Mirrors are useful in reflecting back negative energies and spells and can also be used in scrying.
• Mithra - Persian; Sun God and bringer of Light. A soldier's God.
• Mojo Bag - A small velvet bag containing charms, herbs, stones and other items to draw energy, luck, love or prosperity etc. to the wearer.
• Monotheism - Belief in one supreme deity who has no other forms and/of displays no other aspects.
• Moon Magick - A ritual, ceremony or practice conducted in association with a particular phase of the moon; most often aligns ones energies and purpose to the feminine aspect of the divine.
• Morgan - Ireland, Wales, Britian; Crone aspect of the triple Goddess. Goddess of War, magick, fate and death. She was also doubled with The Lady of the Lake. Associated with ravens, crows, shapeshifting, magick, prophecy, wisdom, war, peace and night. It is Morgan who taught Merlin his magick Patroness of priestesses and witches.
• Morgan Le Fay - Welsh. Death Goddess. Glamorgan in Wales is her sacred terrotory.
• Morrigan - Celtic war Goddess.
• Mother - The aspect of the Goddess representing motherhood, mid-life, and fertility. She is represented by the full moon, the egg, the colors red and green. Her Sabbats are Midsummer and Lughnasadh. The Full Moon Goddess.
• Muses - Greek; Goddess of Inspiration who vary in number depending upon the pantheon used.
• Mysticism – The belief that one can achieve direct consciousness of God or truth though meditation or intuition.
• Myth - Cycles Body of lore about any land or people that makes up their mythology.
