Colour Magick
Pleasing the Senses:Fragrance Associations
Using colour associations in Magick isn't just about choosing the right shade of candle to light.  Colours are an intricate and important part of our emotional life, and so become important in many aspects of Magick too. Colour is abundant around us ~ it is simply everywhere. The leaves on an Autumn tree or the pale blue water in a stream . Sunsets blazing down to meet the horizon over a calm night sea or the Moon casting her pale glow over a snowy mountain scene...
These may leave you breathless.
Very often we will use colour to set a mood, or cast an atmosphere.

Every colour has it's own 'feel'...a vibration, and will have a unique effect on our feelings and emotions, though we may not even know of the effect it is having upon us.

To increase our awareness of the effect colours have upon the senses, subconsiously we also associate colours with scents and smells.  This can help boost our magick, as when we draw from within ourselves these thoughts and feeling of comfort and happiness, we are making the power of a spell increase. When making  ourselves aware of the scents and aromas we attribute to certain colours, we are attuning our senses. We are bringing together elements of Casting that will make our magick stronger ~ because we are bringing into the Cast a part of our own personality, and allowing ourselves to become relaxed and are working with something that is familiar to us.. This is why I believe that colour and scent associations are a very personal matter.

Bringing together all the associations with Colour and Fragrance may seem a bit daunting- too much to take in and remember- but if you stick to what you feel rather than what you should learn from a book, then it will all fall together quite naturally. Some people only ever use one or two fragrances in spellcasting ~ I certainly do not use many at all, and have found myself easily associating just a few scents with the 'feel' of the spell ~ fragrances that I feel are appropriate for what outcome I want to achieve.

So...what colours and fragrances do I put together?  It depends on what feels right at the time, but if there is a scent that draws a certain feeling or emotion from you and also a colour that makes you feel the same way, then use them together. The list here is what works best for me ~ it may not be the same for you.

Other Associations And Correspondences
Add colour to your spell easily and simply- you could just pick the candle colour to match. Sometimes it isn't convenient to light a candle, or you may want a little 'extra' . I have certain coloured items that I include in many spells. A red piece of silk, black pebble, gold coin, purple button, silver hairpin, green ribbon,...etc. These I wear, hold or tie around my left wrist when casting a spell if I feel the need for a little extra colour. Any item is cleansed after it has been used, and wrapped carefully in a white cotton square, then gently placed in my 'extras' box inside my altar.
