| THE MAGICK OF GEMSTONES |
| Gemstones and crystals hold within them a wealth of power ~ and many people use them for healing. Here I am going to tell you how I cleanse and dedicate my crystals before using them, and I have added a page to give a brief description of the Magickal (rather than healing) powers of some stones I use. |
| Crystals have been described as 'inspirational' ~ and anyone who has held a stone in their hand and felt its resonance singing to them will understand that sentiment. Gazing upon the beauty of gemstones and crystals can raise the spirits, and open your heart to the knowledge of great charm in such small stones. Knowing the magick they hold can open the mind and thoughts to a higher and wider perspective. There are many reasons told as to why crystals work ~ in healing and divination. Some say that it is the colour that enhances the power of the stone. Corresponding the colour of a gem to the healing or magickal properties we feel in colour may be why a gem 'works' for us. For instance, the colour of rose crystal is a soft pink hue, and this colour is used in magick for love, healing, and matters of the heart. This crystal is said to be particularly beneficial in the magick workings that portend to the healing of the heart also. Many others feel there is a direct link between the healing properties of a gemstone compared to its mineral content. Examples of this would include the Hematite stone and its link with healing blood disorders (it has a very high iron content), and also blue lace agate, which is used for healing of the throat chakra (this gem is full of air bubbles and also is said to have a high iron content. |
| Crystals and gems should be cleansed ~ ritually speaking of course ! Crystals especially are very sensitive to vibrations and energies~ they will soak up emotions and thoughts. Cleansing them often will help keep your crystals clear of these unwanted energies, and better for you to use. The cleansing should ideally take place both before and after using the gems, and it is quite easily and simply done. I have three different ways of cleansing ~ this first is a simple cleansing to use before and after use of the crystals: Run the crystals through mineral water ~ best obtained from a shop. Adding a very small pinch of salt as they are being cleaned and cleansed will help with the cleansing of the crystals. When you feel the crystals responding (trust your instincts here ~ you will feel something), remove the gems and leave them to dry on a pale blue or white cloth ~ though I occassionally use a pale purple cloth for this. Another way of cleansing is to use the 'smudging' method. In a fireproof container, burn some dried sage and dried vervain...and also two or three apple seeds too. Pass your crystals (held in your hand) over the smoke and visualise the smoke passing through the crystals and as it does so, releasing the negative and tired feelings inside them. The negativity is harmless as soon as it leaves the stone, it is disappearing into nothing. Words may be said at this point if you wish. I find this works well: "Pass these stones through smoke I will! To give them back the power to heal. Words of meaning good and true Recharge my stones with power anew" Let it be known by your thoughts and then deed, that these stones will only be used for the highest good ~ never, ever, taint your stones with using them for an unjust or evil purpose. |
| The third method of cleansing involves leaving the crystals overnight, the night before the Full Moon, covered with freshly made moonwater. On the second night, leave them out again, not covered with anything at all, but resting on a white cloth. The third night ~ the night straight after the Full Moon, you should place the crystals in running water ~ such as a stream or the sea. Recite the lyrics as above, replacing the word 'smoke' with the word 'water'. When you bring the stones back home, you should keep them wrapped carefully in white cotton or linen cloth. It is a good idea to 'play' with the stones ~ holding them in your hands, touching them, as often as you want to. If, during these times, you are feeling especially well, happy, or 'connected' (spiritually, or psychically), it will help the stones to 'soak up' this good energy. |
| Dedicating your crystals ensures that when you use them in any magickal workings, no-one ~ including yourself and others you want to help ~ will be harmed, and the stones will be 'working' as they should. Crystals that have been dedicated in this way will not 'accidentally' soak up bad or unwanted energies whilst you are spellworking, and they will channel the energy in the way that you wish them to. You will need to dedicate your crystals if they have been unused for a long period of time, or if you personally have had a great emotional change in your life. Dedication should also be done when you first acquire your crystals. It is quite simple, and will only take a few moments: Hold the crystals in your hand for empowering (right hand if you are left-handed, and vice versa). Visualise a great healing and encompassing light surrounding the gems. The light is the energy created by the gems themselves ~ it is their unique vibrations. The light must build up and encase the stones, and then you must visualise the light being re-absorbed, pure and positive energy being drawn in by the gems. As you visualise this, you must say words that will allow the full and honest sincerity of your feelings and intent: to use the stones only for beneficial and positive magickal workings. When you have visualised all the energy being absorbed, the dedication is over. |
