The Pentacle has long been considered the symbol of the Witch ~ similarly to the cross being a sign and symbol for Christians. I wear a Pentacle with pride. It shows everyone that I am a woman who lives her life travelling the path of the Old Ones. Wearing the Pentacle is also important to me for other reasons: I wear it on a chain around my neck, the point representing Spirit showing the way upwards. This, for me, symbolises the spirit in me that is part of the 'whole'. It is a representation of the thought and consideration I must show in everything I do. The pewter symbol lies next to my skin, in the middle of my chest. I lay it there to show to me how personal the Pentacle is to me ~ how I always hold the beliefs I have close to my heart. It is a constant reminder of how powerful and wondrous Nature and the Universe is ~ but also how I am a powerful being too. It shows to me how I am unique, and yet part of everything, and may draw on the power of Nature, and still have that power within myself too, as I am part of Natures' wholeness and am still an individual. Each Element has its own strengths, but drawn together they are Everything: They create 'The Whole'. Of course, the Pentacle does mean so much more to me: it symbolises who and what I am ~ physically and, more importantly, emotionally too. I draw comfort and find peace from my place in the world. I am constantly finding tranquility and serenity in the arms of Nature, and held spellbound in the awe of it all. I know the world is not perfect ~ there is evil and hatred, discontentment and intolerance. Within all this, I find calm in my choice of beliefs ~ assurance that there is a better way ~ knowledge that there is a greater power protecting all (be it that you call this greater power 'Goddess', 'God', 'The Mother', 'The Horned One', ...etc). My Pentacle represents ALL this to me ~ it is a 'whole', everything, unity. A symbol of who and what I am...A Witch, a Pagan. And I am proud to be called so. |
