Ruins
A fading image of you
As I wake from restlessness
Amid graying trees and
Ebbing tides of memory.
An old ache in a new place,
A new grief in an old way.
Explosions of child’s fears,
Pain spreading anew.
Darkness enfolding me
Into her cold embrace.
The teeth of a new day come
Biting hard on flesh,
Tainted with blood.
Running again from unfamiliarity,
Fleeing yet farther from
A place I know nothing of.
Empty with no way to cure.
Alone with no one to love.
Dwarfed by emotions kept inside
Spilling over and boiling hot
I ruin myself.
