Beating around the bush You tell the nurse you fell. She stares; she knows you’re lying. What else can you tell her? You love him, He loves you, Or so he says. Every time he hurts you He cries and vows never again. Every time you believe him And he proves an ass again. One drink he says, You believe him again. You were wrong again. You know next time you May not walk away. How can you escape though? You know he’ll find you. You can’t run anymore. So as you sign the note And beg your mother not to cry You pull the trigger and End it for him. He finds the note that night After he found your body. He tries to bring you back. To remove the bruises and black eyes He gave as gifts the night before. But no amount of praying Can save him now. You were what kept him safe, You were the world to him, He knows that now. Now that he can’t have you back. As he stares at your blood Trickling from the next room He picks up your gun Still warm from your hand. He left no note. Left no one to mourn him. He ruined your life and You realized it all too late. He ruined his life and He realized it all too late. Now, as his cold body collapses Upon your own warm flesh The police arrive. They found the note too late. They didn’t move fast enough, The world never heard your names Because you have none. You are both a statistic now. You were never out to change the world, You never thought you could. But you did, Now your story is known And your soul lives on In those that don’t forget. |
