BASIC PERSONALITY

    Aquarians have an original, idealistic streak & the more positively this is show, the more fulfilled they will be. However, this originality must not become too idiosyncratic or perverse as others can then be at best embarrassed & at worst seriously annoyed.
     Aquarius is an air sign, & its inhabitants need air, both physically & metaphorically. They must realize how very stubborn they can be & should try to counter the tendency. When young, they are usually leaders of their generation, but sometimes they continue to cling to youthful opinions, so that what was once a splendidly forward looking nature becomes ultra-conservative. Again, awareness of the problem will go far to counter it.
     Positive & optimistic even when life gets difficult, Aquarians rarely lose hope, & their natural humanity always reminds them that many others are less fortunate (in every sense) than themselves. Their chief fault is usually unpredictability, but their independence can also make them very remote, causing emotional problems. Partners & friends may be justified in suspecting that sometimes Aquarians act out of sheer perversity.

PARTNERSHIP

Of all the Sun signs, Aquarians can find it most difficult to settle into and sustain a close emotional relationship. Their powerful need for independence makes it particularly hard for them to let others into their lives, for they realize this will mean modifying their lifestyles & tolerating an invasion of their living space - psychological as well as physical. they often decline to enter into a relationship until they are so set in their ways that it all seems impossible, so remain permanently single. Even so, there is a strongly romantic streak in many Aquarians, who like the glamor of romance, and once committed are - like their Capricorn cousins - very loyal. The placing of Venus will color this aspect of an Aquarian's life, & may modify the attitude considerably.

CAREER

Aquarians must have a free rein to do whatever is expected of them in their own way, uninhibited by continual advice or the insistence on a particular regime. They have to express their inventiveness in their work, whether creative or scientific (or both). They may become inventors of some kind. Some do extremely well working in communications, the airlines, or the technical areas of television or radio, for instance. Despite their keen sense of ambition, they enjoy and are good at work which allows them to express their concern for humanity. They make excellent field or social workers or administrators for large charitable organizations. Not obsessive about income, they must avoid wasting their money on trendy fripperies.
Aquarians are often quite seriously disturbed if they are kept waitng for final decisions, or feel some change hovering over them without knowing precisely when it will happen. A sudden decision (whether their own or someone else's) is not nearly as difficult for them. Their quick reactions may even make them sweep out of a well-established job given enough provocation.

AQUARIUS AS ASCENDANT

    As with Sun Aquarians, the need for independence is very great & the personality may seem to be distant; it is difficult to feel close to the enigmatic person with Aquarius rising. The difference between independence & isolation must be recognized: no man is an island. Psychological wholeness is likely to come through awareness that their best qualities are shown through kindness towards & appreciation of other people. When these are reciprocated, they should not push them away, or put up barriers, but accept them.
     Eager for self-knowledge, they are very stubborn & may resist the realization that they should change, even when they accept it intellectually. Pigheadedness & vanity do not become them.
     The problems of sacrificing independenc for a permanent relationship are never far away. The ideal partner may be one willing to take a back seat & play a purely supportive role. They will certainly need to be proud of their partners, & to see some very special qualities in them (partly because they think these reflect their own qualities?)
     They are normally very generous, but an underlying need to be boss can be hard to live with, & inflexibility can cause extra problems, so it is vital that these people learn to compromise.
     Aquarians who grow too inward-looking can become hypochondriacs. However, perversity could drive them in the other direction, so that they ignore their symptoms; they can also be attracted to the latest fashionable health cure. As the circulation is Aquarius-ruled, & the heart is the Leo organ (Leo is the polar sign), the latter should be kept healthy through regular exercise. Psychological problems or even simple worry may cause otherwise inexplicable back pain.

AQUARIUS PROGRESSED TO PISCES

    When the Sun progresses into Pisces, Aquarians feel confused because their emotions flow more easily & are more openly shown. They will also rely rather more on intuition. There is a great contrast between the warm, emotionsl approach typical of the Piscean & the much cooler, distant, logical Aquarian. It's not surprising the Aquarians feel the ground shaking under their feet when the Piscean qualities begin to make themselves felt.
     Don't forget that the tempermental changes will be gradual, nor that they will be of a considerable advantage. The trendy & slightly eccentric Aquarian image may also be softened, & the romantic element, often buried, will now appear, especially in the clothes, which may b e softer & more delicate.
     In the northern hemisphere, Aquarius & Pisces rise fairly quickly, so even if an early degree of Aquarius is rising at birth, the subject may be quite young when the Ascendant progresses into Pisces. Parents should look out for subtle personality changes & ensure that these are positively expressed & contribute to the psychological development. The Aquarian openness & frankness may be clouded by a rather secretive tendency.    If, for instance, the change takes place when the child is very young, such an event as the birth of a younger sibling could result in the negative side of Pisces provoking deception, worry & confusion. The increased sensitivity of Pisces will, however, greatly soften anyone with Aquarius rising, making them more personally sympathetic.
