1.1Early History:

1.2 The Byzantine Empire:
The time that Greece went under the name of the Byzantine empire spans from 330 when Constantine the Great appointed Constantinople to the capital of the Roman Empire untill the defeat of the Byzantines in 1721.
The Byzantine empire fought with Sardinia and Sicily to unite Italy as a the Kingdom of Italy against the coalition of Spain, France and the Papal states that fought to unite Italy under the papacy.
The so called Catholic coalition won the fight but did not manage to invade the Byzantine heart lands even after many tries. Emperor Justinian XVI then stepped down from the throne and left it to be taken over by the son to the emperor of Germany. This was concidered a fair and neutral shift of the throne and
