| CURRENT REVIEW |

| I thought that it was unusual for Disney to release this film under their own name, since there is a considerable amount of violence throughout the story. I would have expected the film to be relased under Disney's Orion Pictures subsidiary. At any rate, I found the story to be highly entertaining. Johnny Depp has always been known for taking offbeat roles and he doesn't dissapoint here, either. His portrayal of the rogue pirate with a conscience is outstanding. Both Orlando Bloom and the lovely Kiera Knightley also turn in stellar performances. Adding to the story line is a good dose of humour. For comic relief we have two pairs of bumbling fools, one pair are cursed pirates and the other a pair of "redcoat" British soldiers. The special effects for the cursed undead pirates is amazing! I give "Pirates" 7 out of 10 stars. |
