I play an Ovation CS257 Acoustic/Electric guitar, just like the one pictured below.  I am working on improving my guitar-playing skills so that I can write and perform solo material.

I admit it, when it comes to bass guitars, I am a total Rickenbacker freak!  The distinctive look...that distinctive tone...!  My current main bass is a 1999 white Model 4003 4-string, just like the one pictured below.  It is one of the last white basses made by the company before discontinuing the colour in 1999.

For several years I have wanted to own and play a 12-string bass.  I finally have achieved this.  My most recent acquisitions are not one but two Hamer Chapparal CH-12 bass guitars, one black and one white, just like the ones pictured below.  Talk about an in-your-face wall of sound!  These are amazing instruments!  I can easily see my bass-playing style becoming much more aggressive as a result of playing these beasts!

The white bass is tuned to standard tuning (Eee//Aaa//Ddd//Ggg), with the option of tuning the bottom set of strings to Drop-D (Ddd) as needed.  The black bass I have tuned down to B (Bbb//Eee//Aaa//Ddd).  Totally wicked-sounding!
EFFECTS
I currently use a DigiTech BP200 Bass Modeling Processor unit, just like the one pictured below.  It has a wide variety of programmable effects parameters and a control pedal, all in an affordable package.  It is also small enough to take just about any gig or practice space.

STRINGS
I only use Dean Markley strings for my guitars and basses, even my Steinberger (I have an adapter that allows this).

I use
Dean Markley Blue Steel Cryogenic strings for the electric instruments, and VintageBronze Acoustic strings for the Ovation guitar.

As I have a heavy right-hand technique when picking, I use the heaviest-gauge strings available.  This cuts down considerably on replacing broken strings!
