Pregnancy Report: BABY PICS, PART SIX!!!

You can see two new pics of Baby Boy Kargel by clicking
HERE or on the thumbnail below.  I formatted things into one large picture, but at a reduced resolution, so the file is only moderately large, about 111K.

I have to apologize for the delay in posting these new ultrasound pics of Baby Boy.

After the PC debacle, I was able to get the PC back on using the original PC hard drive...it is functioning just enough to get online and have the printer and scanner operate...otherwise, this old hard drive simply lacks the space to do anything else!

Then last week, both Bridget and myself picked up a nasty stomach virus that was making the rounds.  We both got severely dehydrated after only a couple of days, and I took Bridget to the emergency room at
Floyd Medical Center to be monitored, both for her sake and the baby's.  She was taken up to the labor and delivery department.  After she was settled in and everything seemed OK, I was sent back downstairs to the ER, as I was about to pass out myself!  I got one bag (1 liter) of fluids via IV, and Bridget ended up getting two!  Needless to say, I didn't feel like doing much the next couple of days.

I have been pulling a lot of overtime at work otherwise, so I am just getting around to scanning in the pics on my days off this week, and getting them uploaded.

Next week, we should have some more ultrasound pics, as we are heading back down to Atlanta to
Northside Hospital on March 10th for another Level II scan with Dr. Jeff Korotkin.  The next afternoon, we will be visiting with Bridget's OB/GYN, Dr. Jordan.

Bridget blew both of her glucose tolerance tests, so she is now considered a gestational diabetic.  She has been put on a diet that really isn't too restrictive...she has to spread out a certain amount of carbohydrates throughout the day, and she has to do a blood test once in the morning after getting up, and two hours after every meal throughout the day.  So far, it hasn't been so bad, and Bridget in fact has responded well to the diet, as after that first day of testing, her blood glucose levels have all been within the norms!  We will have to continue doing this for the remainder of the pregnancy, however.  Having gestational diabetes is actually not a big suprise to us, as having larger babies is a side-effect of that, and as well all know, this baby is already quite large!  We expected Baby to already be on the big side simply because I was born a big baby (8 lbs 14 oz, nearly nine pounds, when I was delivered at 38 weeks), and (as I recently learned) my dad Chuck was nine pounds when he was born!

We have also started attending the current session of the pregnancy and childbirth classes offered by
Floyd Medical Center.  We had attended this class when Bridget was pregnant with Royce, but since he had come early, we missed the last couple of classes...namely the ones that dealt with what to do after the baby had actually arrived...so we want the opportunity to learn something from these classes in particular this time around!

Other News...

I will soon be taking most of my homepage offline to do some major renovations, namely with resizing a number of the graphics files that happen to be too large and uploading those to replace the existing ones.  This will help to alleviate my space problem, but it is also a very time-consuming task.  I plan on starting on the
Index page, Main Menu page and the News pages first, as I need those to be up and running as soon as possible!  I need to create some space to be prepared for a new Baby Page for when our son arrives!  There are going to be a lot of baby pictures to upload!  I will also make this an opportunity to "redesign" the site, so to speak.

Pregnancy Report: BABY PICS, PART SEVEN!!!

Lots of news to report!

We went down to Atlanta to
Northside Hospital on March 10th for another Level II ultrasound.

Baby is now estimated to tip the scales at 6 lbs 11 oz...already the size of a full-term baby!

Dr. Korotkin decided that dietary changes alone are not enough to curb this side effect of gestational diabetes in this case and has put Bridget on insulin injections three times a day in an effort to slow down Baby's growth.

Dr. Korotkin is also concerned about Bridget's blood pressure.  It is considered in the upper end of normal.  He has ordered her to take half-days at work now for the duration of the pregnancy.  She is not on bedrest when she gets home...she only has to take it easy.

We can handle all of this, but the financial impact of Bridget's workday cut in half is going to be devastating.  We were going to have difficulties managing her being out in May after baby was delivered as it was!  I hated having to do it, but I had a long talk with
my mother Peggy, and she is going to help us out.  Bridget's parents, Gus and Carolyn Reinwald, are willing to help out as well, but Gus is retiring at the end of March (Carolyn has been retired from teaching for a couple of years now), and they don't know when his retirement pay will kick in (it was over three months for Carolyn).  They have their own bills to pay in the meantime, and only on Carolyn's retirement.  We are just thankful that we are able to get any help at all!  Hopefully, once Bridget has full paychecks again by August, we will be on an even keel...I hope so, as I will be taking a bit of an overall pay cut myself once Baby is added to my health insurance!

The next day, we had an appointment with Bridget's OB/GYN,
Dr. Jordan.  Actually, due to appointment scheduling, we didn't see Dr. Jordan this time, but Dr. Jarvis instead.  We like him, too!  The big news from all this is that we are now pleased to announce that a date has been scheduled for delivery of Baby!  Assuming Baby cooperates and does not come early, he will be taken delivered via Caesarean Section (of course) at Floyd Medical Center in Rome on the morning of April 23rd, 2004Dr. Jordan should be the OB to perform the surgery and delivery.  Mark your calendars!

Yes, the irony of the date that Baby is to be delivered coming right on the heels of the anniversary of
our son Royce's death is not lost to us.  But to me, it is sort of poetically ironic.

Other News...

You may now notice that most of the pages on this site are now unavailable.  They have been taken offline for renovation.  As I mentioned before, most of the pictures uploaded to the web server at Geocities are formatted too large.  I have copies of all of them here, and I am going to go through the process of resizing them and/or creating thumbnails for them.  I have a serious space problem, and I need to make room for all the new baby pictures I will be posting!  I will also be creating a new Baby Page!  Please be patient while these renovations are going on...it will be a tedious and time-consuming process, and I am going to prioritize what pages are done first.  The
Index Page, Main Page and News and News Archives pages will be first.  I will then set up a new Baby page and have it ready to go.  Royce's picture page will be brought back up next, followed by my nephew Sammy's page (there are a lot of pics I have never posted).  The rest will come as I find time to do it.  While I am at it, I will likely give the site a bit of a facelift...it has looked the same way since I first put it up back in 2000.

I have made a very difficult decision regarding the
Index Page.  Ever since Royce died, I have had his last (and best) picture as the "gateway" into this site.  I subsequently added a pic of my dad, Chuck.  In the spirit of "out with the old and in with the new", I have decided to remove these pics from the index page, and will replace them with a suitable pic of the new baby once he is here!  I think that it is appropriate to do at this point, and I think that both Royce and my dad would agree with this if they were able to.

The
Index Page will, in the interim, have something else to click on to get to the Main Page.  Some new music, too!

So, in a nutshell, a lot of changes are on the way!

Pregnancy Report: BABY PICS, PART EIGHT!!!

You can see two new pics of Baby Boy Kargel by clicking  on the thumbnails below.  I formatted things into to only moderately large files, about 126K and 115K.

You can clearly see Baby Boy's face in these pics!  Isn't he beautiful?

We went down to Atlanta to
Northside Hospital on March 17th and again on March 24th for more Level II ultrasounds.

Baby is now estimated to tip the scales at 8 lbs 3 oz while only at 34 weeks gestation...officially outweighing
Royce, who was 7lbs 11oz when delivered at 35 weeks!

The insulin injections that
Dr. Korotkin directed Bridget to take seems to be controlling the blood glucose levels in her body due to  gestational diabetes , but it is unknown if it has really slowed down Baby's growth.

The non-stress tests assigned by Bridget's OB/GYN,
Dr. Jordan , have all gone well so far!  Assuming Baby cooperates and does not come early, Baby will be taken delivered by Dr. Jordan via Caesarean Section (of course) at Floyd Medical Center in Rome on the morning of April 23rd, 2004!   Only 27 more days to go! We are getting really excited, now!

Other News...

I am going to be migrating this news page to
LiveJournal soon.  It just makes more sense to me to tie things into there.  I will then try to have the LiveJournal updates load here, but I am not sure if that will work or not, since all of Yahoo/Geocities stuff is proprietary.  This experiment may not work out at all, but I hope that it does!  I also hope that I have the time to "tweak" everything!  Stay tuned!
