"Hope springs eternal..."

OK, this was
NOT planned this time...we had decided some time ago that we were going to wait a little while...but Mother Nature has intervened...

We are expecting a
BABYagain!

We just got confirmation on this yesterday afternoon!

Those of you here who know me also know what happened the last time...so we are understandably both thrilled and scared to death at the same time...if only because of what happened the last time with our son
Royce

Because this and any future pregnancy will be considered high-risk, we are going to be seeing the
OB/GYN earlier than we normally would...we have an appointment on September 24th.

The irony in all this is that by our calculations, she has conceived at almost the same time as she did Royce two years ago now...and we are finding out about this at almost the same time as well!  Based on this, we can anticipate a due date sometime in May (like Royce's was despite his premature birth).

I don't think I need to tell you folks that we need all the prayers/positive thoughts/good vibrations/whatever that can be channeled our way...after the kind of year we had in 2002, it's
about time that things started going our way.

I will try to keep all of you updated on what happens.

Maybe this time I get the chance to be a real daddy instead of daddy-in-being...!

WEBSITE UPDATES:

I have given my

Pregnancy Report:

Bridget has been doing well this week.  She is starting to get very tired by the time she gets home from work in the afternoons.  Morning sickness has not set in yet, but we are expecting that it will soon...she was horribly sick while pregnant with Royce.  She is also starting to get hungry all the time!  No wonder she had been having little luck with Weight Watchers® these past several weeks...she was already pregnant!  :-P

She has already had an appointment with her regular physician.  Again, it was confirmed that she was pregnant!  [Duh!  :-)  ]
Sylvia King, the nurse practitioner, who is also close to us and all too familiar with what happened the last time, has informed Bridget that it appears that she may be further along in her pregnancy than first thought.  She has set a tentative due date of May 6th, 2004!  When we see Bridget's OB/GYN, and the doctor that also delivered Royce, Dr. W. Pope Jordan III,  on September 24th, she could be as much as ten weeks along, and Dr. Jordan may have a better estimate on the due date then.  I recall that with Royce, Dr. Jordan initally estimated early May, and then he had moved it up later by about two weeks.  Of course, he surprised us all and showed up five weeks early!

Yesterday, Bridget and I made some changes.  Bridget has suspended her accounts with both
Weight Watchers® and Curves® due to her pregnancy, which means that she can basically pick up where she left off after she recovers from the delivery of the baby and lose some of that "baby" weight!  We have also began to research pediatricians in the area, and have settled on Dr. Robersteen Howard, who has a good reputation...in fact, some of Bridget's friends and colleagues take their children to her when they are sick!  We also started researching and touring daycare establishments to find out who is the best "bang for our buck", etc.  We know there could be a waiting list, so we need to get on board one of them ASAP.

More Farewells...

The "Man in Black", country music legend Johnny Cash, has passed away at age 71.  Though he had been battling autonomic neuropathy and diabetes for some time, he had been going downhill even since his wife passed away suddenly a few months ago.  A huge influence on countless musicians regardless of genre (including myself...I admired him greatly), he has left a lasting mark on modern music and will be greatly missed.

Another tragedy...actor John Ritter died suddenly this past week as well...the same day as Johnny Cash (and the anniversary of 9/11 as well overshadowing these sad passings).  The cause of death was apparently a previously undetectable defect in the aorta that can tear a hole in the aorta.  It is almost always fatal.  I could not help but compare what happened to John with what happened to my dad...both die rather suddenly and at a similar age (57 for my dad, and just days away from John's 55th birthday).  A very underrated comic actor, most famous for his role as Jack on the sitcom "Three's Company", John is survived by his second wife and four children.  He too will be missed.

Pregnancy Report: FIRST BABY PIC!!!

Bridget has been doing OK this week.  Morning sickness has set in, but it is different from her time being  pregnant with Royce.  She doesn't have constant nausea (which is good), but when she has gotten sick (only a few times so far...again, better than last time), it has come rather suddenly.

We had our first appointment on September 24th with Bridget's OB/GYN, and the doctor that also delivered Royce,
Dr. W. Pope Jordan III.  We had an intial ultrasound done, and the results were encouraging!  We could see a steady heartbeat, which dropped the odds of a pregnancy failure to about five percent, according to Dr. Jordan.  The ultrasound confirmed there was only one baby there, so we now know how many we are dealing with.  Based on the size of the embryo (1.4 cm) and the time of the last period, Dr. Jordan has estimated the baby was at about 8 weeks (as of today, not the other day).  The projected due date is May 5th, 2004, though since this is (of course) a high-risk pregnancy, the baby will be taken out via Caesarian Section during a scheduled surgery, and that would likely be a couple of weeks before.

Dr. Jordan took a couple of pics for us to share with all of you!  Please be aware that the pic is of large size (over 400K) in order for you to see any details, so please be patient while downloading it.  You can get the pic
HERE.

I attached these in an email to
my mother Peggy and sister Beth, as well as my in-laws Gus and Carolyn Reinwald, as well as Bridget's sister Sarah and husband Edgar.  In fact, September 24th was Gus' birthday, and it was a perfect opportunity to send him a little present, a first glimpse of his new grandchild!

The irony is not lost to me that the baby's birthday would therefore come very close to the two-year anniversary of the death of it's older brother Royce, April 22nd.  But that would be just fine...in fact, I would take that as a blessing straight from Royce.
