Van Helsing --Movie Review By : Kameron Anson Outcast by the world, Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is called a murderer by the people he saves daily from the powers of evil that haunt them. He is sent by a secret organization to Transylvania, which is ruled by the undefeatable Dracula, the monster Van Helsing has to defeat. While he is there, he has to protect Anna Valerious (), one of the last of a powerful royal family that was ruined by Dracula. She is bent on avenging her ancestors and ending an ancient curse by killing the vampire. By challenging an enemy who never dies, Van Helsing uncovers a secret he never imagined. This movie did okay in the box office and that upsets me because I actually paid $3.00 that contributed to its success. Van Helsing has got to be one of the most mind-numbing movies I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of movies. Only small parts kept me interested. If it wasn't a fight scene or anything with Carl, Van Helsing's friar sidekick, I was bored. The overall dialogue was extremely uninteresting. I tried to pay attention to the movie so that later on I wouldn't be confused, but then it got to the point where I just didn't care and I wanted the movie to go off. The plot and the special effects were good, but the way it was put together was messy. Kate Beskinsale played Anna Valerious, one of the key characters. She had one of the worst French accents I ever had the displeasure of enduring. She threw off all of her parts with her lack of thespian skill, which irritated me to no end. There was one part in the movie where Van Helsing had to kill her brother because he had been cursed as a werewolf. It was a tense moment and everyone was supposed to sympathize with her, but you couldn't, because her cry was so transparently saying " I'm just doing this to get paid." I can honestly say that I did not enjoy this movie, and I don't recommend anybody see it. Save your money, but if you insist, wait until it comes out on video and save yourself. |
