He married Anna Catherine Mayer in Chambersburg, PA, April 21, 1844. Anna was born Woodstock, VA November 11, 1823. Anna was the daughter of Jacob Mayer and Margaret Tate. At 22 years of age Anna became the mother of Charles Augustus Laubach 1846. At 23 years of age Anna became the mother of Cordelia Laubach in Lock Haven, PA, 1847.

At 27 years of age Samuel became the father of James Mayer LaBach in Chambersburg, PA, June 6, 1845. At 28 years of age Samuel became the father of Charles Augustus Laubach 1846. At 29 years of age Samuel became the father of Cordelia Laubach in Lock Haven, PA, 1847. Samuel Harrison Laubach served in Company A, 70th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, Army of the United States, in the Civil War with the rank of Musician. He was killed in action May 15, 1864 at the Battle of Resaca, Georgia. The following information about this engagement is taken from the The Civil War Pages, 78th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry web site at http://members.tripod.com/~ProlificPains/resaca.ht m: Battle of Resaca. On the 14th of May 1864, the Army of the Cumberland advanced in line of battle till within a mile of the fortification of the enemy while the other corps of the Union Army were trying to press to the rear of the enemy. Speaking of the 14th, the Morning Report Book of Company F says, "There was heavy fighting all day long along our entire line just in front of Resaca, Georgia." On the night of the 14th our brigade threw up rude fortifications within about 800 to 1,200 yards of the fortifications of the enemies. Company A and F were on the skirmish line in the woods in front of these fortifications, with the exceptions of some recruits who had just joined the company and were kept within the fortifications. During the entire day the artillery stationed along the line of fortifications in our front. We poured into their fortifications a leaden hail from our rifles. A regiment would march into our breastworks, each man having sixty cartridges, and would continue to load and fire into the fortifications of the enemy until their ammunition was exhausted, when another regiment, with a new supply, would takes their places. A constant fire of musketry and artillery was in this way kept up nearly the entire day, so that the Confederates did not dare to raise thier heads above their fortifications. Several times during the day the Confederates attempted to plant a battery in position to defend their lines, but each time the guns were dismounted by our artillery before they succeeded in firing more that two to three shots. Our line of battle that day was in an oak and hickory woods, and, during the day, squirrels could be seen skipping about over the boughs of the trees above the fortifications. They probably thought the neighborhood had gone on a hunting expedition. As night came on, the firing ceased and the troops in the fortifications went to sleep while the skirmishers acted as pickets. Sometime in the night an alarm was given and the enemy was supposed to be advancing. Suddenly everybody was moving, and a most terrific cannonading began. The gun supported by Company A, of the 78th Pennsylvania was the first to open fire that night, but in ten seconds a hundred guns were firing, and in less than five minutes it was all over. It was a false alarm, and the next morning we discovered that the enemy had slipped out of his entrenchments and escaped.

The Confederate Army retreated from Resaca to Cassville, nearly thirty miles south, and took a strong position north of the Etowah River, where it prepared for battle; but when he found that General Thomas was rapidly concentrating his forces, he retreated to Alatoona Mountains, south of the river.

"An American minister of the German Reformed Church, was born in Lykens Valley, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, in 1798; was brought up in the Reformed Church, and early instructed in its doctrine. Preparatory to entering the ministry he was for four years under the special tuition of Rev. Samuel Heiferstein of Philadelphia; was licensed to preach in Sept. 1822 at the Synod held in Harrisburg, Pa.; was soon afterwards ordained, and took charge of the churches in Woodstock, Va., and vicinity. After three years of labor he removed to the neighborhood of Shrewsberry, York Co., Pa., and there took charge of quite a number of congregations. In this field he labored eight years; then removed to Mercersburg, Franklin Co., Pa. and became the pastor of the church at that place, in connection with those at Greencastle and Loudon in the same county. In 1836 he was appointed special agent of the theological seminary at Mercersburg; the next eight years of his active life was devoted to the work of procuring funds for the use of that institution and of Marshall College in York, in the founding and establishing of both of which he was deeply interested. While engaged in this work his health failed, and he was obliged to relinquish the pastoral work, and attend to some secular pursuit in order to provide for himself and family a proper temporal support. He lived in this way during different periods at Chambersburg, Philadelphia, Columbia, and mainly at Lock Haven. In the last named place he died October 29, 1872. He suffered severely, especially during the last four years of his life, from lingering consumption, in the midst of which he manifested much christian patience, especially during the closing portion of his earthly career."
