ROLLERCOASTER CHALLENGE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I STILL HAVEN'T GOT OVER IT EVEN NOW
I WANT TO SPEND HUGE AMOUNTS OF TIME ON MY OWN
I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANY SERIOUS DAMAGE
I WANT TO MAKE SURE I CAN MANAGE
"Jennifer will you please stop." I yelled
She quickly tuned around her red hair flowing over her shoulder.
"What do you want from me?" she cried.
"I want you to talk to me."
"What's there to talk about? You're not the Greg Proops I used to know.
You've changed."
I tried to stay calm. I couldn't let my Jennifer leave me. She
continued to pick up things off the bedroom floor.
AND MY LIFE IS JUST AN IMAGE OF A ROLLER COASTER ANYWAY
"How in hell am I different?"
"Just look at yourself. Can't you see it?"
She walked past me and continued to pick up things around the house.
I ran up to her and grabbed her arm causing her to drop everything.
"Jenny I love you don't leave me."
WHEN YOUR SKY FALLS TO MINUS ZERO
WELL SOME THINGS MUST DISAPPEAR
"Greg no. Just get away from me."
I grabbed her arm and this time didn't let go. Jenny couldn't do this
to me.
"Just talk to me please."
We sat down in the hallway and I grabbed her hand. Little tears
trickled down her cheek and fell onto my jeans. I put my arms around
her and pulled her into me. She began to shake and I tried to calm
her down.
"Greg I can't take it anymore."
She lifted her head and stared with tear stained eyes back at me.
"I may have changed but I still love you."
She turned away from me and put her head in her hands.
THE NAMES MAY HAVE CHANGED
BUT AS PEOPLE WE'RE NOT THE SAME
"That's just it Greg. You don't understand. You don't love me."
I looked at the carpet below me. Jenny means everything to me. Our
relationship has not been perfect, but no matter what I would always
be there for her.
"What do you mean?"
BUT AS PEOPLE WE'RE NOT THE SAME
"We are two different people. I don't know who you are anymore."
Jenny stood up and held out her hand. I put my hand in hers and
stood up. We we're silent until our eyes met.
"So what are you saying?"
I WANT TO SPEND HUGE AMOUNTS OF TIME ON MY OWN
I knew what she was saying I just didn't want to believe it.
"It's over Greg."
She picked up her boxes and continued down the hallway, down the steps and stopped at the front door. I followed her and waited to hear that final goodbye.
"Jennifer I'm sure we can......"
"No Greg it's over. I'm done with trying to love you. I'm done with lonely nights. I'm finished."
I hugged her and gently stroked her hair.
"I love you." I whispered
We let go and she kissed my cheek.
"I'm sorry Greg."
I opened the front door for her and felt one more salty tear fall down my cheek.
BUT AS PEOPLE WE'RE NOT THE SAME
I watched her walk down the driveway to her friend's car waiting in
the street. She looked at me one last time, blew me a kiss and got
into the car.
AND MY LIFE IS JUST AN IMAGE OF A ROLLER COASTER ANYWAY
By the time the car had gotten down the street I shut the door and slowly slid down the back of it. The unusual silence of the house shocked me. I was alone. All of the memories of Jenny are gone. She's gone. I lay down on the floor and curled up into a little ball. All I really wanted was my Jenny back in my arms. She was gone.
THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED
BUT AS PEOPLE WE'RE NOT THE SAME
For the first time in my life I was alone
