Gecko Journal! Tracking the growth of two ciliatus.

I picked my two baby R. Ciliatus as a journaling project because I think cresteds are some of the neatest specimens of the reptile aura, and because they're rapidly becoming a very popular household pet!. I hope my enthusiasm rubs off, because it's very genuine!

Well, for some background info...

A friend of mine from an internet group informed me he was selling two baby cresteds. I loved the coloration of the parents and siblings I saw in pictures, so decided it was worth the money to invest in the little hatchlings he was selling. I spent a good chunk of my school money on getting them shipped across the country to my house. They arrived on August 15th, when they were only a couple days old. Surprisingly, they were already over three inches long and quite large for hatchlings.
After keeping them in quarentine for a couple days, I added them to my ten gallon tall terrarium with two juvinile ciliatus from Indiana. I didn't consider agression an option, and I haven't encountered any difficulty so far. The terrarium is considerably well planted with four different varieties. The cresteds prefer the dense pothos to any other green, and curl themselves on and around the lush vegetation.

Their terrarium was originally an acrylic fish tank, so it has little air circulation except for the punched out pump holes I covered with wire mesh. The tank is placed next to a window with a wood plank shielding it from direct sun. The airconditioning in my room keeps everything a steady 72-76 degrees. This particular terrarium has been living since May 2002 with little or no replanting. I consider the eco system to be functioning correctly since nothing has died and no excess waste is obvious.

6 Months Later:
Neptune and Kassity are growing steadily! It's late February, and they made it through the winter without serious issues. Kassity turned out to be a slow grower, but she's catching up. Neptune has quite an attitude -- very aggressive. A couple times I've put my hand in and held it above the babies, and Neptune leaps off the branches to bite my finger. Mean, huh? The little bugger. I was so shocked the first time I tried to convince myself that it didn't really happen, but then, she did it again a couple weeks later! Argh! Hehe oh well. They're still feeding on mealies and babyfood, although I haven't been supplementing them as often as I should. They're cuties for sure! Kassity is five inches, and Neptune is almost six. Their coloration is holding at peach with brownish red markings. I'm holding out hope that they're both girls since I don't seen any signs of being otherwise yet.
