1st Insurance effective today!!! I still don't have my cards or policy, but at least I'm officially covered. I hope this being April Fool's Day isn't a bad omen...
4th I still don't have my insurance cards, but I am in Trigon's system now. I looked my policy up online and obesity isn't covered - but MO is! Gastric bypass is offered for those with a BMI of 40 or higher, or 35 and higher with co-morbidities. So, that's looking pretty good for me. I've heard Trigon is THE insurance to have if you're trying to get this procedure.
I also called the 800 number for my insurance today to ask about pre-existing conditions. He said if I haven't been diagnosed with anything specifically related to MO then it shouldn't be an issue, but if it is I've only got 210 days before my pre-existing period is over. That's about 7 months. Good to know, but I hope I won't have to wait that long.
8th Today I moved my appointment for my referral up to tomorrow. I just was getting to anxious to wait another week. Plus, I got a little worried that only 1 week between the appt. with my PCP and the surgeon might not be long enough to get the referral approved. So I should have some kind of update tomorrow.
9th The visit with my PCP went well. He was very encouraging about the surgery and said he'd take care of the referral for me. I do have edema and he feels it is probably due to the weight, but he tested my kidneys & liver just to make sure they weren't contributing. He's also checking my thyroid and cholesterol. I should have the results in a couple of days.
10th The results are back from my tests. Everything is fine except I'm anemic so I have to start iron. My cholesterol is 187, triglycerides 161 - which they said is good. They also told me that they checked my insurance and I don't require a referral, so they didn't submit one. I was pretty sure the guy from Trigon said I do, so I'm going to call them and double check.
14th Uhhhh...... what is going on here? I am losing weight! Normally that would be great, but really bad timing here this time. I go for my consultation next Monday and I need to have a BMI of 40 or higher. If I get there with a 38 or 39 then I'm just stuck - not going to lose enough to be healthy and not going to qualify for surgery. This is the first time I ever recall trying to put on weight - its really weird. At least its something I ought to be good at. lol |
