Animal Circuses Descend on the West Midlands!
posted 1-4-06 | ||||||||||||||||
The 2006 circus season had not long started, when the West Midlands saw our first animal circus of the year, and others followed! But wherever they go, protesters follow them!! In mid March, Bobby Roberts Super Circus visited Wolverhampton Racecourse. Bobby Roberts have a 54 year old arthritic elephant called Anne(pictured) and also horses, dogs and birds. Whether wild or domestic, all animals suffer in the circus. Protests were organised outside on most days of their stay. Time and time again, those leaving the circus told how they were shocked at the cruelty they had witnessed inside!! |

Bobby Roberts left Wolverhampton and moved onto Kenilworth, where once again protests greeted potential circus goers outside every performance. Many leaflets were handed out, some people were persuaded not to go in and the support from passing traffic was fantastic! The local media were very keen to cover the protests. There were various articles in newspapers and interviews on different radio stations. Local TV even turned up to record an interview with campaigners! Read an article in Kenilworth News here This week, Bobby Roberts have been on Cheltenham Racecourse. Local campaigners were there again to protest outside every day. Next week, Bobby Roberts are off to Shrewsbury where once again, local campaigners are preparing to stage peaceful protests against circus misery.

Martin Lacey`s Great British Circus proudly claim to be `Britains Biggest Animal Circus`. On their website, they boast that they have lions, tigers, ponies, horses, llamas, reindeer, camels and zebra!! GBC have been at Marston near Sutton Coldfield, since Tuesday and protests have been held nearly every day since. GBC will remain at Marston till Sunday 9th April and then they`ll move off to Leicester. In a couple of weeks, Zippos circus will be in Birmingham. Zippos have horses, dogs and birds. Local campaigners are planning to hold protests on as many nights as possible. |

Protests are often only possible because of the commitment of a small number of campaigners that travel miles from their hometown to where these animal abusers stop. More help from compassionate locals would always be appreciated. Why not contact your local group and let them know you want to join circus demos in the future. You could just make the difference between a demo happening or not. Always be on the look out for circus posters.
