Statement from the Jill`s Day 2005 Committee ~ 21-1-05 |
||||||
Jill`s Day 2005 is now just 2 weeks away and we would like everyone to be assured that the day is going ahead, despite rumours you may have heard or what you may have read in the Coventry Evening Telegraph article(20th Jan). It is true that plans for the day have encountered some major setbacks, most notably that Coventry Central Hall, the venue for the cruelty-free stalls, Jill`s film, exhibition etc, have pulled out at the last minute, just 4 weeks before the day!!! This venue had been booked for several months but they offered no apology for the disgraceful way in which we have been let down. The reason given was the(now infamous) appalling incident of grave desecration at Yoxall, Staffs which the police/media have repeatedly tried to blame on the animal rights movement, but as yet have released no evidence.
Over the 2 weeks since the shock anouncement from Central Hall, members of this committee have worked hard trying to find a new venue. Several suitable venues had been found, but one by one they all decided that for whatever reason, they could not accommodate us on the day. We have now been forced into contacting all 26 of the booked stallholders to inform them that there will not be a cruelty-free fair on the day and we have offered them their donations back. Some of these stalls will hopefully still join us at the afternoon/evening venue, the West Indian Club. Understandably, everyone will be very disappointed by this news but we hope that you will not be put off from coming to Coventry to remember Jill and experience what will still be a fitting 10th anniversary tribute to a wonderful, compassionate person. The day will also be an excellent opportunity to raise awareness amongst the general public of the many areas of animal abuse that continue to blight our society. We will now be meeting outside Central Hall(map and directions) from 12 noon where there will be speeches and the march will set off at 2pm as previously. The first half of the march will be silent and when we reach Coventry Cathedral, we will listen to more speakers. The march will continue accompanied by a samba band and will end up at the West Indian Club where there will be free vegan food, stalls, live music, poetry etc. This will also be an opportunity to see the exhibition and watch Jill`s Film, which would have previously been shown at Central Hall. Sadly, due to a double booking at the West Indian Club, we will now have to leave by 9pm. More details of the revised plans for the day can be found on the Jill`s Day 2005 website here For anyone who will still be arriving in Coventry in the morning, you may wish to start the day by laying flowers at Jill`s memorial stone at Baginton Airport before joining us in the City Centre. See pictures of the memorial stone here For a map showing the location of the stone on Rowley Road (opposite the gates to the airport), click here We look forward to seeing you on the day, The Jill`s Day Committee Jill`s Day 2005 PO Box 3605, Coventry CV1 3WS Tel: 07771 953465 jillsday2005@hotmail.com www.jillsday2005.co.uk |
