Protesters march for the freedom of the Oxford two
Posted 16-5-04
Around 150 protesters met up in Oxford City Centre on Saturday to call on Oxford University to release 2 monkeys that have been imprisoned there for the past 15 years, during which time they`ve had various painful, useless experiments performed on them! Space in a sanctuary has been made available, where these innocent tortured animals will be able to live out the rest of their lives with relative freedom and without the fear of more pain and suffering.

The turnout included a minibus full and several cars from the Midlands. Campaigners marched from the meeting point around the city streets, waving banners, chanting `Free The Oxford Two` and distributing hundreds of leaflets.
The route of the march took us past the existing university animal labs and then protesters stopped to listen to powerful speeches opposite the site where Oxford University are building a brand new laboratory which will conduct 1,000`s more useless experiments on primates and other animals. This building site is contained within a huge 10ft wall(see picture) and protected by police and security staff.

SPEAK Campaigns are not only calling for the release of the `Oxford Two` but also the immediate scrapping of this building project, and for it to be replaced with a state of the art lab that would work for medical progress without the use of misleading animal experiments.
