| A huge new aquarium is planned in Bedford. Many 1,000`s of fish, amphibians and reptiles will be held captive for human entertainment, and many of these creatures will have been snatched from the wild. But this project gets worse, NIRAH stands for National Institute for Research into Aquatic Habitats. The huge development will house laboratories where pharmaceutical companies will extract toxins, venom and secretions from these animals, and use them to increase their profits!!! Bedford Animal Action, Animal Aid and the Captive Animals Protection Society have joined forces to campaign against this mammoth aquatic zoo. |

| On Saturday 19th November 2005, around 150 people from across the country(including a minibus full from the West Midlands), held a rally and march in Bedford Town Centre. We listened to several great speeches which explained how the aquarium will also sell `surplus` animals to the pet trade and research more `efficient` ways to farm fish for human consumption!! Many 1,000`s of leaflets, encouraging locals to object to the plans, were distributed as we marched through the towns busy streets. Protesters pledged to return to Bedford for future demos, if the plans are not withdrawn. | |||||||||||
