Selfridges National Week of Action was major success!!

Despite an ongoing campaign against them, Selfridges continue to sell rabbit fur in their stores. A National Week of Action against Selfridges took place from 19 - 26 February and proved to be highly effective in educating the public about their barbaric trade in fur.

On both Sunday 19th and Saturday 26th, simultaneous protests took place in London, Manchester and here in Birmingham. The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade(CAFT) encouraged people to phone, email and write complaints to the various stores throughout the week. In Birmingham, temperatures were near freezing but 6 protesters at each demo proved that you don`t need large numbers to have a real impact! Chants of `fur trade, death trade, boycott Selfridges` echoed down the street and our banners/placards were seen by many 1,000`s of shoppers! In total approx 1,500 leaflets were handed out to the general public!!

On Sat 26th, after 3 hours educating shoppers on New Street about Selfridges, campaigners walked over to Snow & Rock as we didn`t want them to feel left out!! They currently sell coats with silver fox fur lining to the hoods! Previous protests have taken place at this store but this was definately the most effective! Staff decided that they didn`t want their customers inside the store to be put off buying their products by our chanting outside, so they manned the door and opened and closed it everytime customers came and went!! They`re ashamed of the truth!! The demo lasted an hour during which time we received loads of support from passing traffic.

The protests will continue against both Selfridges and Snow & Rock until they adopt a fur free policy.
