For potential new members/participants We are very grateful for any amount of time you can spare to help us because quite simply the more collectors we have the more money we take, and the charities we support are always in need of funds. And however attractive we consider ourselves to be, the general public stubbornly continues to regard our dogs are infinitely cuter, thus the presence of greyhounds and lurchers has a guaranteed marked upward effect on takings. They also advertise to anyone approaching what we’re collecting for. So please bring your dog if you possibly can, unless they are likely to savage children! You may have to field offers of a new home for your canine companion but at least it’s reassuring confirmation that you’re not entirely deluded in thinking he or she is gorgeous, and the dogs tend to quite enjoy the fuss, or if they don’t they’re good at ignoring it while they get on with the serious business of catching up on some sleep. Finally, at the risk of sounding like Nanny, please note also that even on an overcast day, you can quickly start to feel the cold whilst standing still, so on street collections we do recommend lots of layers, thermals, gloves, hats, scarves, extra socks etc. etc. as well as sunblock on hot days if you burn easily. Your dog may also appreciate something to snooze on whilst basking in the admiring glances from the public. If you have difficulty locating us, my mobile number is 0799 089 0779. I only tend to use it for street collections so it’s not a good number to reach me on generally, I will have it switched on on street collection days in case you need advice about where to park and how to find me.
