Have a Veggie Merry Xmas!
And help us encourage others to
enjoy a cruelty-free festive season
posted  27-11-04
It is a sad fact that the amount of animals killed for food rockets at this time of year - many millions of turkeys, chickens etc die to provide xmas dinner! So what better time of year to encourage the general public to go cruelty-free by making them aware of all the gruesome facts of factory farming. And of course the veggie diet is far healthier and less damaging to the environment - there are so many reasons to go veggie! For a selection of delicious recipes with no animal ingredients, click on the Viva turkey poster.
Leaflet stalls
On Saturday 27 November, members of
Solihull Animal Aid held a veggie stall in Mell Square, Solihull Town Centre. During the day 100`s of people approached the stall to browse the wide selection of leaflets and sign petitions. There were cruelty-free christmas guides, lots of veggie recipes and information about the many other ways animals suffer at the hands of human beings. Young children were each treated to one of Viva`s colourful stickers. For over 5 hours the stall educated many 1,000`s of people who walked through Mell Square - just seeing the posters is enough to prick the conscience of some people!
For several hours during the day Father Christmas went walkabout amongst the shoppers, meeting young children, posing for photos with them and most importantly, distributing the cruelty-free christmas guides to them and their parents. This was highly effective - many hundreds were handed out as children and adults alike were keen to find out how they could enjoy Christmas without contributing to the suffering of animals.

Solihull Animal Aid and most other groups across the Midlands and round the country hold regular stalls like this, not just in the run up to Christmas, but all year round. If you would like to get involved, contact your
local group and ask them to keep you informed when stalls will take place.

Door to door leafletting
Another great way of getting the veggie message out to the general public is door to door leafletting. Viva produce special Xmas turkey flyers which are perfect for doing just this. The leaflet describes the cruelty involved in intensive farming turkeys and prompts people to contact Viva for a copy of their Free Veggie Christmas Pack. Every year, thanks to hundreds of people round the country who spare a little time to leaflet in their neighbourhood, Viva are absolutely inundated with many 1,000`s of calls, emails and letters!
Various groups in the Midlands will be leafletting in their area this year. Once again, why not contact your local group and get involved.

Alternatively, contact Viva direct and order as many fliers as you can manage to deliver. If you don`t fancy going door to door, why not hand them out at work/school etc. See Viva`s contact details below or click on the Viva logo to go to the Viva website.
