As we all know, all things must come to an end. When you had 30 days or less left on your tour, you were considered "short" and you could wear your "short ribbon" (courtesy of Dirk Klover). This consisted of the ribbon from a bottle of Seagram's VO. Sometime during that time you had your orders cut and when you only had 7 days left you stopped actual work and started out processing. One of the stops to get signed off was the NCO club. If you were a member, they would give you a butane lighter. In our section a new tradition sprang up where they would give you a "Sawadee Cup". The days counted down and it was time to say good-bye and get on the C-123 Fairchild Provider to take you to Don-Maung (in Bangkok). There you got your boarding pass for the freedom bird to come back home. Your tour was over. Sawadee.
