ABOUT ME | |||||||
Name: Jera I don't know how my parents come up with my name, and until recently I didn't know it meant anything. Turns out its a Norse rune that is a symbol for the harvest. Click HERE for a description and picture of the rune and HERE for a low down on what my name means (and a pretty accurate look at my personality, frighteningly enough!) My current most time consuming activity: LOOKING FOR A JOB!!! Seriously, I have a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education. I graduated from WMU in April, 2003 and have been searching for a job since then. In the meantime, I've had a long term band substitute position, I've subbed in general classrooms, and I work at Mervyn's. Favorite Quotes: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."--John Lennon "To believe is to have faith in what you cannot see. The reward for this faith is to see what you believe."--qtd by Dave Lewis "Play the music, not the flute."--Marcel Moyse "In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make."--The Beatles "What's with 'today' today?"--Lucas from Empire Records "Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you." Willy Wonka Favorite actors/actresses: Harrison Ford, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor/Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles, Renee Zellwegger Things I like: music, hockey, coffee, Slurpees, movies, books, dogs, Denmark, Chicago, 75 degree weather, snow, spring, thunderstorms, and well, a lot more. ~Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan, The Tragically Hip, Matchbox 20, and Beth Orton are a few of my favorite bands/musicians. For more on my favorite music click HERE. ~The Detroit Red Wings are my favorite hockey team. I also root for the WMU Broncos and the Grand Rapids Griffins (now the Detroit AHL affiliate). ~Coffee? Yup. Cappucino, Mochas, plain old Maxwell House, whatever, I like it. But if you really want to get on my good side, a Tim Horton's Cafe Mocha or Dunkin Donuts Vanilla Chai will earn you major points! ~Diet Pepsi Slurpees are suh-weeet!! ~Mystery, Alaska, My Best Friends Wedding, the Princess Bride, American Beauty, Life is Beautiful, Empire Records, Erin Brokovich, and The Patriot are all movies I can (and have) watch(ed) repeatedly. There are more of course, but I digress... ~BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS! I love to read. Consequently I also love to write. But again, I digress. School work kinda gets in the way of reading for fun, but when I get the chance, I love it. Classics I love are To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye, The Color Purple and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Other good books: Midwives, The Client, Where the Heart Is, and Girl, Interrupted. Things I don't like: PUCKBUNNIES, big bugs, rude people, Britney Spears, semi-trucks in the far left lane on the freeway, saurkraut, and the Colorado Avalanche. Favorite Class(es): This category is pretty much defunct. Let's talk about what I like to teach! Elementary and middle school band are my favorites. I love teaching students the first steps to becoming a musician. A solid beginning and background will give them a major stepping stone, and I hope that I can give that to my students! Another favorite area is marching band. Marching band holds a special place in my heart, and for further proof of that you can click here. The educational benefits to a musically strong marching band experience are plentiful, and maybe one day we can discuss them. Basically, I love to teach music. Least favorite class: THEORY AND AURAL COMP (I am soooo glad I'm done!!) I left that there as a lesson....in retrospect I really wish I had focused my hatred of those classes and turned it into way more serious study. I took them seriously, but only now do I really see and know their value. Places I have been: this is really exciting, I know....6 foreign countries (Canada, Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg, France, and Italy), a bunch of states (Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, W. Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, and Georgia), Washington D.C., and the Cayman Islands. I'm sure you're really glad you know that now. That's just a quick overview. The rest of the site should explain some things a bit more! |
