Why Peppy's in the Gables Rocks                                             Early Fall 2002

You can't fail with Peppy's. You just can't. The food is out of this world, the atmosphere is quaint and pleasant, and the service is impeccable. It's not cheap, but not very expensive either. A dinner that includes two glasses of wine, appetizer, two main dishes and desert will cost you about $60.

The last time we went was this year for Valentine's. The experience was so pleasurable, so much what I expect a meal to be, that I
have to rave about them once and for all.

Regarding the food, they did the typical Valentine's-hiked-up-prices-special-menu thing, but they also offered about 6 or 7 dishes from the regular menu at a fair price. I had the veal (yes, the veal! I couldn't resist! I don't like seafood and I'm sick of chicken! The cow's already dead!).  It was stupendous, the best veal I have ever had (and, because I love the baby cows, it has been years since I have any veal!). It was soaked in this garlic wine sauce... so tender, so juicy, it was heaven! I usually have the same pasta dish on other occasions, and I taste whatever my husband's ordered. Always, without fail, it is delicious. No dish is pre-prepared, everything is made fresh when you order, and while this may mean a longer wait, it is worth it.

And what can make good food more enjoyable but excellent service? I don't know about you, but no matter how good the food is somewhere, if the service sucks, I get in a bad mood and don't enjoy myself. The Peppy's staff is wonderful. The owner herself is at the front to greet and seat. She walks around, making sure everyone has everything they need. The wait staff (and I believe the owner's son works as a head waiter) is polite and friendly. I keep seeing the same people over and over again, so I have to assume it's a pretty loyal staff -- and how common is that in this town?

I should state that I
am biased towards Peppy's, since it was here that my husband proposed to me and it is the restaurant we go to whenever we're in the mood to celebrate.

So go. Eat. Enjoy. Just leave table # 4 open for us.
