Please, No More Sad Songs Winter 2003 My life has a soundtrack, and it's a pretty damn depressing one. I've always defined my life through music. Whatever my emotions, state of mind or particular mood, there's a song for it. There are songs that remind me of certain people and certain situations without any effort on my part. And after listening through the same CD for the 7th or 8th time in a row the other day, I now realize I have a problem on my hands. I've been listening to nothing but sad songs for close to a year and a half now. And it's wearing on me. Over and over, the same CD's (mostly burned mixes -- that's right recording industry, here I am!!). Songs that are sad, melancholy, downright depressing, and best yet, the ones that seem to be happy and positive but really aren't. They're playing over and over and over in my head, and I'm caught in the endless cycle of it all. The thing is, I love these songs. I enjoy them. They have special meanings. But I'm tired. I need something more upbeat, something new. And therein lies my real problem. Short of Outkast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, nothing has caught my attention. I know there are a ton of new bands out there, plus lesser-knowns with real talent, but it's like my brain is on dumb mode and I can't find them or properly appreciate them. I've become a sad-song zombie! Please, please make the sad songs stop. I have every reason to be happy and cheerful. If only I could find the right soundtrack to accompany that. |
