Mons, "The Hunter", was well-known for his exploits as a hunter, shooting many deer and other wild game. He once shot a panther that was attacking his dog. The family moved from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to Somerset County sometime after the birth of Amos who was christened in 1764 at Gloria Dei Church. This suggest the earlier date of 1761 is either erroneous of there was another child name Amos born in 1761 who died as an infant. Andrew may have been born March 5, 1727.
