Between the Lines

*Stuivekenskerke, the church of this hamlet remaind in German hands for the duration of the war.
On the 22nd October 1914, the 8th Linie (left)& 1st & 2nd Karabiniers (above) departed from this point to stop the Germans on the Yser. The battle was fierce, the losses high, and only the inundation could stop the German attack.

*Stuivekenskerke, "Hoeve Vicogne" once a German advanced observationpost, now a hotel-restaurant. (right)

*Stuivekenskerke, de Reigersvliet, the modern counterpart of what once was a farm, fortified and defended by the Belgian army. (left)
