At central Vietnam the remainings of the ancient Kingdom of Champa, My Son, can be found. This site has an especially bizarre historial note: During the war, it was a hidding place of the Viet Cong. The USA tried to bomb them away, untill certain circles in the USA protested it's OK to erase the Charlie but such cultural relics are not to be destroyed, pls! They indeed stopped the bombing for this reason.

Partly shattered, though, these remainers still allow to get a glimbs on the achievements of a great culture.

Although being semi-piratic and dependend on 'foreign funds', the Cham developed a high cultural level, as this sculpture in Danang proofs.

Some thousand years old, but they still made me hesitated to enter the dark door beneath.
