Jeff's Update:

November 2001

My most recent stuff is at the top of the page. Here's what I've been up to...

My Life

(11/19-11/25)

Last week was very busy around the McAllister household. Late Tuesday night my Aunt, Uncle, and their three kids arrived to stay through Sunday. My grandmother and her husband arrived midday Wednesday and stayed through Friday, although they stayed in a nearby hotel. Needless to say Wednesday and Thursday were very, very busy.

On Thanksgiving we had half vegetarian and half turkey dinners. I of course opted for the turkey, but half of our guests eat vegetarian. It wasn't a full-blown turkey, but turkey breast with cranberry-apple stuffing from Trader Joe's (my favorite food store), which was just fine with me. And of course all the other stuff, mashed potatoes, corn, etc. For dessert we had a choice four pies (all created by my two youngest cousins), they were chocolate (my favorite), apple, pumpkin, and pecan.

Also, during week I went and ordered my new computer from Gateway, it's a Gateway 500XL with a flat panel monitor and I cannot wait. With a Pentium 4, 1.7 GHz processor, 56 Megs of RAM, and a 40 Gig hard drive (like I will ever use that much, but you never know).

On Friday, we all decided to go into Washington. The guys went to the Air and Space Museum and the girls went to the Newseum (actually in Arlington). Now, to put this in perspective, the local news media had been whining and crying about how empty the city had been. I guess they all decided Sunday was the day to start visiting again. The Museum was packed, wall-to-wall children, which most of you know I cannot stand, unless their related and even then...

We saw quite a bit, but I think going back on a less crowded day might be more enjoyable.

Friday night I watched the movie, A Knight's Tale, it was pretty good. If your looking for something a little different, but entertaining I would check this one out. And the DVD version has a lot of outtakes and behind-the-scenes stuff.

(11/12-11/18)

My brother and his girlfriend came up from Atlanta for the weekend, for a pre-Thanksgiving visit, since he wouldn't be here for Thanksgiving. On Sunday night we went to one of my favorite restaurants in Washington, The Occidental, a very diplomatic looking restaurant with hundreds of pictures of Washingtonians of the last century. Oh yeah, the food was great too.

(11/4-11/11)

Well, since a lot of stuff I do ends up happening over the weekend I've decided to publish my updates every Monday instead of Sunday. Which works well for me, since I usually forget until Monday anyway.

This past Tuesday was election day here in Virginia. We had to vote for governor, lieutenant governor, and Attorney General, thank God we don't have to do that for federal elections. I mean what the hell does a lieutenant governor do anyway? We also had to vote for the local sheriff and delegate to the state of VA. Well, the choice was tough, vote for the only candidate or no one, I chose the latter because I don't believe in communism where you only get one choice anyway.

I rented the movie Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan on Friday. It was actually a pretty good movie. Yes I know I'm behind the times, but I don't go to the movies too often, because there is usually nothing worth watching. So, if you get desperate for movie I would recommend this one.

Yesterday (Sunday) I met with a guy named Rich who is interested in starting a WebSite/referral service for non-invasive ventilation. For those of you who have no idea what noninvasive ventilation is, it is basically what I use with a ventilator and mask at night and a mouthpiece during the day. Check out this article for an easy to understand explanation. Anyway, Rich runs a bunch of WebSites about Muscular Dystrophy, even though he doesn't have Muscular Dystrophy or really know anyone who does (well, he obviously knows me, but only recently). So, hopefully with his computer experience and interest Muscular Dystrophy, as well as my having Muscular Dystrophy and my business degree, I can help him get this network going. And hopefully provide some people with valuable information.

Finally, we got our new living furniture Thursday just in time for Thanksgiving when we will be having quite a bit of company: my aunt, uncle, three cousins, and my grandmother will be down for Thanksgiving dinner. A full house. Also, I should be getting a new computers soon with a flat panel monitor which I have wanted for quite some time. So, I can't wait for that. That's it, stay tuned.

(10/28-11/3)

This past Monday (Oct. 29) we attended an interview featuring Jack Welch, the former head of GE. He was interviewed by Tim Russert who is the host of NBC's Meet the Press. It was a very lively discussion and I really enjoyed it.
