Jeff's Update:

August 2001

My most recent stuff is at the top of the page. Here's what I've been up to...

My Life

(8/12-8/25)

I simply can't believe it's the end of August.

My Mom went away to visit friends New Jersey for about a week, which left my Dad and I to our own devices. No problem, with a little male ingenuity and only one major argument, we made it.

Also, we went and saw "Rush Hour 2" at the new AMC Theatre, just down the street from our condo. It's actually close enough, that we don't bother driving. The Theatre is huge, 22 screens, stadium seating (with a perfect location for wheelchairs, not very common in stadium seating), but that luxury requires high ticket prices ($6.50-$8.50).

As for the movie it was pretty good. Jackie Chan is amazing, even though I can't believe he doesn't get injured more often, he sure takes a beating. Chris Tucker was pretty funny, too. Believe it or not I only saw the original "Rush Hour" just two weeks earlier on TBS. I was pretty impressed, I would definitely recommend it.

Just yesterday, Aug. 24, we went into Washington D.C. to attend a live jazz concert at the National Gallery Sculpture Garden. The music was good, as well as the food available at the Pavilion Café. Just before that we visited two exhibits, one on Chinese immigrants going to California and one called Game Face (photos of female athletes), at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building. It was pretty interesting. It also gave us another opportunity to use Metrorail, the Washington area subway system, which is a lot easier than trying to park.

After returning from DC, I watched the movie "Say It Isn't So," by the Farrelly Brothers. It was good, but nothing like some of their other movies.

I don't know how many of you get crazy emails, but I decided every time I get one I will post it right here for your entertainment. Check out this one:

Crazy Email: 419 Scam

Be sure to check back in two weeks (Sept. 9) for the latest.

From now on expect biweekly updates to this page.

I was in such a hurry to get my last Update completed, that I forgot to mention seeing the movie "The Score." I thought it was pretty good. Now I wouldn't consider it one of Robert DeNiro's best movies, but it was a lot better than "15 Minutes," which I thought was terrible. This is just good old-fashioned movie making. I don't even know if it's still playing, but definitely see it when it comes out on video.

I went to another concert at Wolf Trap with my parents on August 9th. This time we went to see Keb' Mo'. He's not extremely well known, but puts on a good show. He performs kind of a blues, jazz, rock combination. He performed for about an hour and was followed up by a strange group, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, way too strange for my taste and the headache I got from the shall we say strange smell emanating from "cigarettes" of some sort, that lingered. Needless to say, we left early.

On the art circuit, we visited the National Gallery and the Sackler Gallery of the National Museum of Asian Art, respectively. At the National Gallery we saw "The Unfinished Print," which had many Renaissance and modern artists. From Rembrandt to Degas. It's amazing the amount of detail that went into even a simple sketch. The other exhibit, "Worshiping the Ancestors: Chinese Commemorative Portraits," featured some really amazing portraits.
