After seeing his picture I called them and found that there was no one
waiting for him, My friend took me out that next Sat. to meet him.
They had great BIG spaces for all the pets -- no more cages for cats
and concrete pens for dogs ! We spent some time together in a special
room and I knew at once HE and I were meant to be together. I got a
covered "potty" for him along with some toys and dishes and he came home
with me that day - the Sat. before Christmas and just one week after I
saw his picture! He really "talked" all the way home and I answered
him to reassure and comfort him. He answered to his name so I did not
change it. Once inside he did a complete and cautious investigation of
the whole place - the main room, the kitchen, the bath and even checked
out all the furniture -- especially the soft chairs.
A friend had gone to the store for me and brought back a Sat. issue of the local newspaper. I live in a Sr. complex of efficiency apartments and get only the Sunday issue. I had never ever gotten a Sat. issue before. There in the center of it was a 2 page spread with pics of dogs and cats needing homes from the Humane Society. I had thought that a Siamese would fit my personality if I did get a cat. And there he was in the paper. I just KNEW he was the one. It was the week before Christmas. Lito was his name and he had been there since July. He had his left lind leg amputated to remove a malignant tumor that threatened his life when he first arrived there -- his "owner" moved away and left him in a carrier on the doorstep of a neighbor who just happened to be a volunteer at the Society. He called her as he drove away! She was not able to keep him due to her landlord's rules so she took him to the
Society, which incidentally completely rebuilt their facility into what must be the most elaborate in the whole State of Colorado. The Clinic there removed the tumor first and when it recurred in three weeks they did the surgery to save his life.
