NO TO THE APARTHEID WALL

The civil committee of Sawahre (Sawahre Al Sharkiya and Sawahre Al Gharbiya - Jabel Al Mukaber), calls on all interested parties worldwide (including embassies, human rights organizations, non-governmental organizations and free people worldwide) to stand with us to prevent the construction of this apartheid wall. This wall has no precedent in history except for a certain similarity to either the situation in South Africa before it attained a freely elected government or perhaps the Berlin Wall which fell in 1988.

We summarize our requests according to our simple needs and inquire: How shall we bury our dead in our cemetery once the apartheid wall has been erected between our cemetery and us? What is left for our living people after the confiscation of land, uprooting of trees and other hardships once the wall has been erected? This wall prevents worshippers from reaching their mosques or churches, prevents students from reaching their schools and is an innovative ancient/modern method of collective punishment to deprive we simple human beings of the minimum limit for what may be called a dignified life. We have heard about international treaties and laws, which are supposed to protect us from such punishments (although so far they have not ever been applied to us).

Yes to education, worship, treatment of sick people, and freedom for all in our city (Jerusalem).

Yes to freedom of movement to all in our city - Jerusalem.

Yes and together to bury our deceased people in our cemetery on the other side of the Apartheid Wall.

Yes and together to protect our trees and property.

We call on you all to visit us on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apartheid Wall, Sawahre passage (Al Shayah).

Your attendance is a support to our human rights and our humanity
