The following ideas come from the experiences of women across the nation as posted at www.bestfed.com. Feel free to try them out: |
It is commonly believe that partaking of the placenta may decrease the effects of post-partum depression in women. We here at WOMB believe in preventing post-partum depression in both sexes, particularly when do so requires a man to eat a placenta. |
You can dry it, powder it and put it in capsules to help treat post partum depression. You can chew a piece or mix it up with some juice and eat/drink it to help if you are hemorhaging after birth. I believe it is simlar to having a shot of pitocin administered or other herbal remedy. That's all I know! You would chew a piece after birth to stop bleeding. Just enough to have it soak through your mucus membranes in your mouth should be enough. Partaking of it afterward (the "placenta shake", the dried placenta in capsules, the tincture, etc) is to combat postpartum depresion . Chewing placenta may stop men from bleeding too. This hasn't been proven, but WOMB zealously stands behind the merits of the scientific method. |
In my opinion, the best way to take placenta is in the form of an essence. It’s really not the physical attributes of the placenta that are beneficial in preventing PPD but its non-physical or energetic or vibrational properties. In the same way flower essences (like Bach) assist on more subtle levels such as emotions, a placenta essence would work in the same way. For those who missed my post on this before, here is how to make a placenta essence – it’s really easy You will have to get someone else to do this for you because you need to make it pretty soon after giving birth to ensure the placenta is still alive and vital. Take a small piece of the placenta and put it in distilled or spring water -- must be pure water not just tap stuff and in a glass bowl or jar with a glass lid, those glass storage jars would work fine. Leave the jar with the placenta piece and water in direct sunlight for at least four hours. The water then absorbs the vibrational properties of the placenta. After four or so hours bring the jar in and remove and discard the placenta piece. Take the water, it will look rather like herbal tea because of the blood, this is okay, add alcohol to preserve the essence water, 50 percent water to 50 percent alcohol, vodka works great, and store in a glass mason jar. This is now the "Mother Essence" and should last a lifetime. To use, you need to dilute further by filling a one or two oz bottle with dropper with 50 percent water and 50 percent alcohol and add SEVEN drops of the placenta mother essence. Messiah College students: be sure to substitute ginger ale for the aforementioned alcohol. WOMB does not condone the breaking of the Community Covenant. |
Here's a crafty idea...... A beautiful thing to do with your placenta... Get a big piece of paper (blank newsprint works very well). While the blood is still wet on the placenta, lay it on the paper with the veined (shiny) side down, and the cord hanging down (so it looks like a tree, with the cord for the trunk and the veins for the branches). Press it to the paper so the blood makes a print. Later when it dries you can make a really beautiful family tree or other picture for baby...and it just looks like brown paint to anybody who doesn't know so it won't freak out your mother-in-law or Great Aunt Maude! |
