Sonic Youth:

In high school, Lynda got a taste for show business with her band, the Relatives. She toured and cut a single, which was never released

As the invincible heroine of television's Wonder Woman, she was a '70s icon, a strong and noble beauty, a young star with a hit series and the world in her powerful grip. But beneath her all-American costume, Lynda Carter was a woman from a humble past, aware that there was more to life than saving the world, week after week.

True Hollywood Story follows Carter's rocky journey from childhood performer to beauty queen, from her high-flying hey-days to the scandal that stretched her second marriage to the limit. Through it all, though, she kept her voice, and she kept doing what she loved best--singing.

Raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Carter vowed only to return there in a Rolls Royce. From the age of five, she was singing and dancing on local television, and as a teenager, after the divorce of her parents, she fronted a band that quickly grew popular. A gig at a local pizza joint, where she earned $90 for four shows a week, soon led to shows in Las Vegas casinos.

But she couldn't see a future performing on the road, so the ambitious siren used her statuesque looks to seek stardom, starting with local beauty pageants. A Miss Arizona crown led to her victory as Miss USA, which led to a Hollywood career. After only two years in Los Angeles, her first big break turned out to be her biggest. At the age of 24, she was cast as star of the live-action Wonder Woman, bringing a believable, working-woman's face to the crime-fighting Diana Prince.

Wonder: The Wonder Woman producers wanted a star "at least 6 feet tall, very beautiful, in fantastic shape, who could act," Carter's friend Sue Cameron said.

After a rocky marriage to her manager Ron Samuels, Carter wed Washington banker Robert Altman and had two children. Through an international banking scandal that rocked his career, through her years in and then out of the spotlight, Carter kept singing (on a series of high-rated network variety shows) and remained, as she was once called by the International Academy of Beauty, the most beautiful woman in the world.
