The same year she was
spotted in a magazine by agents and offered the part as Richard Gere's

Rachel didn't want to

of her, and refused to take the part. At age 17 she realized that she DID
want to act, but her parents insited she'd get a good education, so she
went to Cambridge to
study English litterature,
in wich she majored. Her first noteworthy part was in "Scarlet and Black"
in 1993, with Ewan McGregor as her costar. Her breakthrough was "Stealing
Beauty" with Liv Tyler in 1996, but most people knows her as Evelyn in
"the mummy" with Brendan Fraser from 1999. In the beginning of her career,
Rachel thought about changing her last name to "Vyce" but didn't, as it
felt like betraiding her family.
