If Confusion Were a State, I'd Be Governor

The Basics

Ok...My name is Kelly Kathleen Hissem, and I am 23 years of age. I was born in a town called Struthers, near Youngstown, in Ohio. Now my home is in Oregon, Ohio (a small, boring town on the outskirts of Toledo) where I have a nice little apartment. I was living with my parents and my younger brother, Jared (who's now 21), but that wasn't working out.
I'm an independent girl in need of freedom!
Standing about 5'7", I am a mix of Irish, German and English backgrounds, with blueish-greenish-greyish eyes, and my hair is dark auburn with blond highlights.
My birthday is May 21, making me a Taurus or Gemini, depending on what charts you use (but I have characteristics of both signs).

Employment

When I was younger, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Everyone always told me it was something I'd be good at, and it was always something I liked to do. Then one day I had a depressing thought: being a teacher meant I'd be in school for the next 30 years, at the least! After a great deal of thought I changed my mind and decided I want to go into therapuetic massage. It's something I am very good at, it's better money, and I bet I'd meet some pretty interesting people. I may go back to school later in life to become a teacher, since English and writing are two of my life's passions. I'm spontaneous, so I never know what I'm doing.
After three long, painful years, I finally quit Frank's Nursery & Crafts. I currently work for AVI Foodsystems as the General Manager of Retail Dining at the University of Toledo. It's more money, better hours, nicer people, and I don't have to touch fertilizer or worry about forgetting to give someone their whopping 10% discount on Senior Citizen Wednesdays. The account I was training at was really great...it's where I started 5 years ago when I worked part time for the company. I worked third shift at the time, and when I came back as management some of the girls STILL WORKED THERE! Trippy! At UT, things are a bit more complicated because I deal with the Union, which I don't have a lot of experience in that field. I put up with a lot of crap, but I feel like I'm getting things under control. I'm a lot happier since I've left Frank's. People have even commented that my whole attitude has changed, and I seem a lot happier. That's because I am! Life is peachy!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Hi, my name is Kelly...and I'm a junk food junkie. It does wonders for my girlish figure, let me tell you. I am into junk food in a big way...Doritos rock (nacho cheesier are the best), and Skittles are so tastey (gotta love that bone marrow). I am addicted to mashed potatoes, Chinese food, and Spanish rice. I quit drinking carbonated beverages, and I rarely eat fast food anymore. My biggest vice is Wendy's Crispy Chicken Nuggets. Damn them for only being 99 cents everyday!
I love to read ( my favorite books are The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb and The Fall of Freddie the Leaf by Leo Buscaglia) write, and I love to shop. There's this really groovy pagan store back in Dayton called Anything Under The Moon. Laurie and I used to go there for hemp jewelry, incense and candles (as if we were allowed to have those in our dorm rooms...), and stones for her mother, who was a practicing Wiccan. Where I live now there's a place called The Hippy Store. I have yet to venture there, but give me time.
My favorite colors are green and purple.
I am into movies in a big way. John Cusack is my favorite actor. I almost own every one of his movies now. I also love the Brat Pack movies, (St. Elmo's Fire, The Breakfast Club, etc), and pretty much every other 80's movie ever made (Heathers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pump Up The Volume..you get the picture). I enjoy comedies, romance, drama, action, and animated movies. If you were to ask my college roommates, you'd think Dirty Dancing was our favorite movie-the week of finals we watched it at least once every day!
My favorite superhero is Wonder Woman.

My Future Goals

My goals for the future are actually quite simple, I think.
To go back to school.
To find true love (as Julia Roberts would say in Pretty Woman, "I want the fairy tale.")
To get my belly button pierced.
To learn to sew. To learn to play the guitar. And to be happy.

Why I Like Frogs

I have been asked many times exactly why I like frogs, and I have never quite been able to explain it. I think I have always liked them, but I didn't get obsessive about it until about 7th grade. We dissected a frog in science, and I thought it was the coolest thing, especially when we hit the nerve that made the leg move. While several people were disgusted, I was fascinated. A friend bought me a stuffed frog, and from then on I began to collect them, whether they were stuffed, porcelain, ceramic, rubber, on articles of clothing...I even had one for a pet, an Oriental fire bellied toad, and my mum, being a weirdo, called it Fluffy. It ate live crickets, and at one point, we tried to feed it a guppy. It didn't eat it...they lived in harmony for awhile, and we named the fish Sushi. I guess I missed a feeding one day, because when I went to feed Fluffy, Sushi had disappeared. Shortly after that, Fluffy passed on, to the big pond in the sky. I buried my pet toad in the creek in my back yard. For my 21st birthday I got 2 aquarium frogs, which I named Herman and Lilian (no one gets the reference), and they weren't much bigger than a quarter. Herman's aquarium motif was green, and Lilian's was purple. Unfortunately, like all things, they passed on as well.

Tattoos and Piercings

I got my very first tattoo in July of 1999. As I vowed, it was the frog sitting on the moon, placed on my left shoulder blade. It took about forty five minutes to an hour to do. As nervous as I was, there was little pain involved...if anything it was more like discomfort. It just felt like hot scratching on my back. I got my second tatoo in 2002 when I took my mom to get hers for her birthday. Lev put a gorgeous 4-leaf clover on my right ankle...that was the one that hurt! I almost broke poor Bob's hand, and my leg kept twitching I also have two holes in each earlobe. When I lose twenty more pounds, I want to get my belly button pierced. I am obsessed with belly buttons. I love mine, and I want to decorate it. I know, I know..."Kelly, you're weird."
