Hi, welcome to my page. My name is Sai Li. I spent the first ten years of my life in Beijing. I graduated from City Honors School in Buffalo, NY. I graduated with a B.S. in biochemistry from SUNY at Buffalo. I am now attending Dartmouth Medical School.
Below are some stories and poems I wrote for a creative writing course in college. They're amateur stuff but I'm getting better. I'm not a big stylist, but I enjoy writing vignettes. Short and sweet. I love the stories of Raymond Carver, Ethan Canin, and Andre Dubus.
All of the following are about my childhood in China, culled from stories I've heard or from personal experiences. There are over one billion people in China, and each of them has a great story. One of my goals is to translate their heartbreaking tales into English.
A creative writing class taught by Dr. Carl Dennis was the catalyst for all this. He was just awarded the Pulitzer Prize (2002) for Best Poetry for his book "Practical Gods." |
