Monday Nov 4th: Saying Good By to Nepal. Don't feel well this morning. Maybe cipro. Packed, managed to get everything in. Took a cab to airport around 10:00 am. It was a mad house getting out of Thamel and onto the main road to the airport. It's a very difficult job to be a cab driver in this city with the narrow streets and all the traffic. Pollution is bad. I held a bandanna over my mouth most of the way. See quite a few people with masks. I had met Keith on the street the day before. He said he couldn't stand the pollution in this town another day and had managed to get his ticket a day ahead of schedule. Heading for Bali, then Australia. Long wait for our flight at 13:51. I took some pictures of the peaks around the valley. First time we had been able to see them due to the pollution and fog. Saw a lot of people at the airport with the Nepalese scarves. We had packed ours. Felt ill on the plane, took Dramamine. Had vegetarian lunch and then a rest.I felt better when I woke up. About three and one half hour flight to Bangkok on Thai Airlines. Flight was late and we arrived in Bangkok after dark. It was nice to be in the city again but miss the simplicity of the Nepali system. Miss Ram and Hari.. Very hard to believe we probably will never see them again. If I stayed there I would be broke in no time This is not the way to go however. Must make sure what you do will improve even one life somewhat. Hope to be able to do this for Ram's daughter, Anjana. At the airport we booked a hotel in Bangkok for 3 nights/2700
bahts. A taxi to the hotel was 250 bahts. You buy a voucher for
your taxi at a kiosk at the airport. Bangkok is a very big city, nine million people , and the weather is very hot. There is lots of pollution on the busy streets also. We went to 711 store, just at the end of the soi, and bought bread and jam, wine cooler and drinks. The bread and jam really tasted good. We wanted peanut butter but they didn't have any. I never realized before what a luxury peanut butter was. Previous page | Next Page |
