Cyberspace is located on complex
network system and hence, it can be both everywhere and nowhere. As to what is
cyberspace, I think it is a philosophy of furthering the limitless science of network.
Can we approach cyberspace as a
collection of communities?
We can approach cyberspace as a
collection of communities. Although no physical contact is made in cyberspace
(at least till today), people are able to create communities in cyberspace
through means of communications. Though lack of both physical contact and social and political obligations would influence as to what types of communities would form (whether skeptical or reliable ones), basic sense of communities could be formed in cyberspace.
Is cyberspace a local,
national, or international “space”?
Cyberspace can create any size of
communities and hence, any size of “space.” Cyberspace could have a space of
local or national simply by restricting people from logging onto websites. Cyberspace
could have a space of international simply by making no restriction on websites.
Does familiarity and engagement
with cyberspace give insights into the broader world community?
Yes,
familiarity and engagement with cyberspace do give insights into the broader
world community. Since cyberspace could be accessed everywhere, people could
log onto cyberspace and view any sites they would like to visit. Although no
concrete meaning of any types would be fully passed to the viewer through cyberspace, easy
access to world-wide-web-pages would allow people to expand their knowledge on
everything.
