Christian Mericle and Krista Dement

WE DID IT!

The wedding has come and gone and Krista and I have started our life together. And, it is wonderful! I hold no illusions. I know there will be some rocky times but we have both determined to make it through and hold to love. We set aside 20% of the cash wedding gifts we received. This went into our marriage enhancement fund. To keep it going, we will take a percentage out of each paycheck and add it to the fund. This will be used to buy books, videos, attend marriage retreats, etc. so that our marriage will remain strong.

THE BIG DAY

I kidded K about wanting an America’s Funniest Home Videos moment at the wedding. Nevertheless, everything went almost perfectly. My dad (the minister) choked-up with tears as he began the ceremony. That was a shock to everyone. I can honestly say my bride was beautiful beyond description. I was so blown away. (I’ll post pics to the site soon.) While we were doing pictures after the ceremony, the guests ate all of our cake except the top layer we took home. Ugh!

THE HONEYMOON

We didn’t have money to go anywhere. I took a week off of work and we took it (mostly) easy at home. It was wonderful. We might do something bigger when we can afford it.

THE FUTURE

Krista and I are so in love. We are truly looking forward to sharing our lives, having babies (already trying!) and growing old together. She is more beautiful now than when we first met. And I love her more today than I did on our wedding day.

ABOUT CHRISTIAN

I am 27, from Tucumcari, New Mexico, and currently employed by Eastern Plains Head Start. My dream is to be a writer. I have nearly completed my first novel, which I plan to finish by next spring and begin to seek a publisher. Through my employer, I will be going back to school to get a degree in Computer Information Systems (Network Administration). I love to listen to Christian music and am a voracious reader.

ABOUT KRISTA

(Written by Christian.) Krista is 21 and living in Amarillo, Texas, (originally from Spearman). She is employed at a doctor’s office and also working toward her degree in Business Administration for Computer Information Systems. She has also expressed an interest in becoming a nurse. Like me, she enjoys reading and Christian music.

HOW WE MET

Krista and I met through Christian Café. I was not expecting to find to find anyone more than a few online pals. However, at the exact time I sent Krista a Quick Message, she was reading my profile. (How cool is that?) We began e-mailing and chatting over MSN Messenger. We finally met face to face and spent a day together. After the second date, I knew I was in love.

WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

HOW IT HAPPENED

Some time ago, I purchased a CD single of Fleming & John’s “Love Songs.” I put a note in the CD case telling Krista how, in her, I had finally found true love. We snuggled up and listened to the song. When it was finished, I said, “Want to do something everyone will think is crazy? Marry me and move to Tucumcari.” She said, “What?” I said, “You heard me.” Krista said, “YES!” All the rest is, as they say, history.
