Just last week the enemy had converted a means of transportation into a means of devastation to declare war on the United States of America. What once was used to carry cargoes of human beings transcontinentally had been converted into to fuel-laden bombs piloted by faceless terrorists. As weapons of choice, fanatics wielding box cutting knives and a blueprint for destruction almost took down the most powerful nation in the world. All appeared to be engineered as if Satan himself. Never since the attack on Pearl Harbour, has there been so much horror, carnage and devastation. Twice in one century the adversary of the soul of democracy has awakened the Sleeping Giant.
Indeed, in the ninth month on the eleventh day of this year -- numerically 911 -- hell rose up from its pits to visit ground zero, not only at the base of the world trade towers, but also at the nerve centre of USA: The Pentagon. The actual numbers of 911 have now become a date in time which will go down in infamy. Thus, in addition to being a number to call, 911 will survive as a day to be recalled, the day democracy almost died, the day we will all remember where we were and exactly what we were doing when we heard of the attack on U.S.A.
The twin world trade towers once rose some 110 stories into the skies as monuments to the accomplishments and vanities of man. Much worse in potential magnitude, of course, was the plane bombing of the Pentagon. Questons as to who masterminded such an act of aggression cause fingers to point in many directions. But in the end, the enemy of all living souls on this earth hides behind those at whom fingers are being pointed. For certain, let there be no doubt that the god of this world, Satan himself, has willingly been received by the perpetrators of such heinous kamikaze acts.
To the free world, what does any of this signify? James 4:14 asks us this question about life: "For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a little time, and them vanishes away." In a nanosecond hundreds of people went into eternity the moment the rogue aircrafts flew directly into three buildings. Within minutes thousands more entered eternity as well. Truly, only one 911 call could ever suffice for those who had not done so before: that call best dialed to God. Romans 10:13 says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." As it has for many, the values of this life and the next have changed as seen in a nation looking more than ever to God.
As a nation which has a "praying" Christian leader at its helm, the Commander-in-chief, President Bush, can quote Romans 8:31, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Have you ever wondered what the enemy of your soul has to do to awaken the sleeping giant in you? What will it take you to dial 911 to talk to God about the salvation of your soul?
