The King of Hearts

Perhaps according to your doctor, your heart is strong. The diagnosis states that you have a good, strong heart. No triple bypass for you in this lifetime. In truth, the doctor knows the state of your heart. In effect, should you leave the planet, it won't be because of a weak heart. Although not thought of by most, there exists a spiritual heart as well as a physical heart. It is this heart that can house the king of your choice..

Even though a heart specialist can with his sophisticated equipment determine the condition of your physical heart, only God can discern the condition of your spiritual heart. God and God alone knows the hearts of all men (I Kings 8:39; 2 Ch.6:30)). More specifically, God knows your individual heart (Lk.16:15). God who searches minds and hearts (Ps. 7:9) knows fully well whether or not you have the love of God in your heart (Jhn. 5:42). As the earthly doctor exposes the wellness or illness of your physical heart, the heavenly doctor, God, exposes the motives of your heart (1 Cor. 4:5). People who do not serve God do not think about God; they have their own motives. Psalm 10:4 says that in the thoughts of the wicked ones "...there is no room for God." By the same token, in that same calibre of person, there likely reigns the image of the god of this world, the enemy of his eternal soul. Contrary to that, in the spiritual realm, 1 Peter 3:15 commands us this way. It says, "...in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord." Jesus, and none other, can be the only King of Hearts.

Who is your king of hearts? Proverbs 23:7 says that as person, "...thinks in his heart, so he is." So many have given their thoughts over to money, so much so that God just had to mention it in the Bible. Although money in and of itself is not evil, the love of money stands as the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). When that dollar sign ($) sits on the throne of your heart, it becomes as it is with many: the king of hearts. It becomes a god. Matthew 6:24 says, "No man can serve two masters (gods): for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other." The Bible says that no one can serve God and money. Either Jesus is King or money's your thing.

Certain persons have themselves seated on the thrones of their own hearts. They become mirror-seeking creatures who look for their reflections in storefront windows, in brooks and ponds, in another's sunglasses or even in mud puddles. One scripture says that in the end days people will become lovers of themselves (2 Timothy 3:2). Eyes but for themselves, these kings of their own hearts become masters in self-aggrandisement. They always speak in the first person singular "I". They say, "I" did this... I did that... and when "I" was in Kandahar... In the end they use more "I's" than flies have eyes. Obvoiusly, the king of that castle is just a self-indulging rascal. Luke 19:38 says, "Blessed is the king (Jesus) who comes in the name of the Lord!" Set this king apart in your hearts as Lord.
